I fucking love this show. Are there any other cowboy bebop like knockoffs? Should I give trigun a try? I tried once and ended up just wanting to watch outlaw star again. Does anyone remember a shower about some weird legendary "desert punk" or something like that? But in reality he seems like a midget with funny hat, mask, and a shotgun?

Trigun is bizarre, lighthearted comedy series in the first half then straight into melodrama city in the second. Does well in "anime cool" imagery but if it doesn't resonate after a certain point you won't miss much dropping it.

I mean compared to the manga. The new anime is some original story, I haven't even seen it. The Trigun anime ran ahead of the manga so it's kind of a FMA/Brotherhood situation (except the manga was never fully adapted). I think the anime generally hits the major emotional beats better than the manga does and most of the story changes are for the better. The manga does some things better, like it does a better job explaining some things the anime really glosses over, chiefly what "plants" are and their relationship to humanity. The one major thing I think the manga did better is the explanation for why Vash turned out good and Knives didn't. In the manga Vash and Knives discover there was a sentient plant before them named Tesla who was killed and dissected for study. Knives passes out upon learning this but Vash gets angry and ends up badly hurting Rem. This close call with killing his mother figure out of rage kind of scares Vash straight and explains why he's so devoted to Rem's philosophy and averse to killing in a way Knives never experiences, who is free to ruminate on humanity's exploitation of the plants over time

>Outlaw Star
One of my favorites. There’s some surface level similarities to Cowboy Bebop, but it’s more of a fantasy/sci-fi adventure, where CB is more of story of how the crew is dealing with their personal problems with a sci-fi backdrop. It kinda gets forgotten, but personally I liked it more. It’s a wild and fun ride.
>Cowboy Bebop
CB always hits me different depending on when I watch it. I was 11 when I first watched it, and was just hungry for any anime at the time. I would catch the random episodes on AS and enjoy them, but i actually watched the full series at 19. I rewatched it again at 25 and thought it was okay. Then i rewatched it again at 32 and fell in love with it again.
>Trigun
I get the appeal. Vash is a fun character and the slapstick comedy is good but it wears out its welcome. To me, they could have pushed it along better and once they get to the SEEDS ships, it gets more interesting. To me, Trigun was the weakest but it has a lot of fans to the day.

In the anime he was grafted with Vash's arm which gave him control over plant-like powers. In the manga he just has like wires that come out of the skull on his shoulder that he can control people with. He's against Vash because Knives is his master and Knives wants Vash to suffer. They never explain his backstory in the anime but in the manga he was a child sex slave that Knives freed or something like that

Trigun is a special case where it starts out goofy kid show but the main underlying plot is quite serious. Its strongest point is the the cool villan roster though. Space western is a set dressing to excuse the sci-fi elements

It was his way of honoring their surrogate mother hippy teachings. Also as a moral anchor to stop him from devolving into Knives. Plus the way it made killing Knives right hand man so much more impactful and messed up, it was worth the cringe up to that point

Yeah the "comedy filler" in the first half of the show is kind of necessary. You have to get a sense how easily Vash can control a situation to end nonviolently in his "normal" life before Legato and the Gung-Ho Guns show up and flip the table.

Worked(sometimes) for me in Space Engineers.
Building a ship that can withstand the initial barrage (by having a thick detachable shield in front of the cockpit), close distance, latch onto the opponent and literally grind them down into parts with piston-based grinder arms was the funniest shit ever.

Think millions of miles, maybe more.
The type of combat that makes the least sense in space is the dogfights we are usually getting with dozens/hundreds of meters between ships.
I think it will either be super long range exchange of super powerful torpedoes or direct close combat done by swarms of drones (launched from super long range) trying to tear the enemy drones/ships apart.
This is kinda what I ended up with in space engineers as well, minus the "swarm" part, and the programming of my drones was very basic.
