Yeah he's right, at least about the movie version of Lawrence. Some of that also applies to Alec Guiness' character in Bridge on the River Kwai.

He's completely wrong. Lawrence has extreme force of personality and he knows exactly what he is, and he lives up to the legend all the way through even as it becomes a tragedy. His opinion of the stuffy stay-at-home brits who never go to see the world gives everything you need to know about him, he is the sleeper who has awakened, and he is both the master of his fate, and its slave.
