The overall story arc is so unbelievably well-executed, the special effects and the costumes etc felt beyond their time; and every race of alien, every inividual, had such great importance. The Bible WISHES it was as cohesive as the Babylon 5 story.

>>211499413 (OP)Fun fact: Many people wonder why Claudiaโs Babylon 5 character completely changed between seasons. According to her autobiography, Claudia had dinner with JMS after the first season and they had an awkward moment when she realized that JMS considered it a date and she didn't. JMS thought she was into older guys because she had been married to Gary Devore (google that guy, very deep and unsolved rabbit hole) who was 24 years her senior. However, Claudia had at this point decided that she liked really young guys more and was dating dudes who were literally still in high school. She claims JMS never treated her the same after that dinner and discovering that she was turning into a cougar.

First they have her in a pitched battle making a heroic sacrifice, which would be a fine way to write off a character.
But then she survived, but was in a coma that could last forever or end tomorrow, which would be a fine way to write off a character.
But then that incel rangerbro decides to sacrifice himself to bring her back to life so she could decide to fuck off forever to a post where we will never see or hear from them again, which of the three options presented to write off a character is the most clunky while also sacrificing another side character.

Our Military Intelligence believes that the Minbari intend to bypass Mars and hit Earth directly and the attack could come at any time. >We have continued to broadcast our surrender and a plea for mercy and they have not responded. Therefore we can only conclude that we stand at the twilight of the human race. >In order to buy time for our evacuation transports to leave Earth, we ask for the support of every ship capable of fighting to take part in a last defense of our home world. >We will not lie to you, we do not believe that survival is a possibility. We believe that anyone who joins this battle will never come home. AKA, 4 minutes and 11 seconds of video that never, ever fails to get to me. And seriously, Tricia O'Neil nailed her one scene in the movie as President Levy. If you ever want to see the very definition of "there are no small parts", it's this.

>>211539814There's also a church and a mosque, and probably places of worship for other religions, both human and alien, as well. Straczynski himself is an atheist, but also stated that religion has been important for humanity for thousands of years and that's not going to change just because the setting is 250 years in the future (contrast Star Trek, which often turned its nose up at religion). Hence this scene from Season 1:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Hg_TRynRIs
>I stopped watching after the episode with the rabbi and Jewish rituals.Jesus Christ. If the fact that Jews appeared on TV is enough to get you to stop watching a show, how have you not unalived yourself at the knowledge that Jews exist in real life?
In any event, Judaism has been around since at least 1200 BC, you really think it's going to be gone by the 2260s AD? One character on the show is Jewish, so what?
Aside from that, in Season 3 a recurring character is Brother Theo and the order of Trappist monks he heads on the station. The episode "Passing Through Gethsemane" in particular is, like, THE most Catholic episode of any TV show ever filmed, ever.

And the tribe responds by attacking and killing the Pope. That tribe is gonna get curbstomped in response, and once it gets rolling, it's hard to stop.

>>211509255He's a classic Shakespearian tragedy and he plays it perfectly. Every scene he is in is permanently burned into my brain. I honestly think it might very well be the greatest performance of any actor.
As a fan there are a number of things I don't like about Babylon 5. Marcus / Ivanova romance was lame. Whole Byron plot was insufferable. Psycorps could have been more than just evil baddies, in later seasons they tried to backpedal a bit on that. When they were gathering up their forces at the end despite the 'danger' of the Old Ones nothing bad ever happened to anybody. Nobody even got knocked back into some bridge panels or anything.
Season 5 was a disaster when viewed as a whole. Some of the episodes were OK and what the fans wanted was "more random Babylon 5 stories" on Usenet where JMS hung out so he indulged. Even had a number of great guest writers / fans of the show working on that season. Actually a LOT of Babylon 5 stuff in the show was the result of Internet fans nitpicking it and JMS either defending his goof up but often he would go with the consensus. It was probably the first, and last, somewhat interactive TV show that saw the show runner not only directly interacting with Internet nerds but getting into flame wars with them too.

>>211540873>stick to Star Trek, kidwasn't Worf raised by Jews?
>>211542058A Minbari shrieks in pain when he hits you.
What made it all so amazing was that JMS took it so much further. Plenty of shows could have started off with a basic misunderstanding plot. But he didn't just leave it at that and went on through multiple seasons and some of the best episodes fleshing out the background of the war and the true tragedy of it. How humans and mimbari had shared souls and they were basically wiping out their own kind. To be fair Sharidan should have left a note telling the future mimbari not to go full autism on the human apes they would meet in a few thousand years. But I guess that would be started some sort of time paradox.
>>211544826Maybe he did and it was ignored or lost or something
>>211540923One extremely minor complaint I have, and this isn't a problem unique to B5, but that scene is from an episode where they're doing like a religious cultural exchange, and every alien race apparently has just one religion for the entire species.
I read the summaries of the last 2 Babylon 5 episodes, I've been putting them off, partially because im waiting until ive seen the movies, and partially because i dont want it to end. However i know one of the movies is a prequel, and the other two have been described to me as "monster of the week episodes". Does that mean that we dont see the end of Londo's arc? It just ends with him being an old miserable slave?

for me, it's watching the first episode, not finding the tv movie, and having that eastern european say VIR a lot
>>211558598>No one:>Troll: hey guyz whaddabut DS9 vs B5?Don't you have a Stargate thread to derail?
>>211559033yes, no one ever talked about ds9 when babylon 5 came up in any conversation ever, nor vice versa
Who had 'Claudia Christian writes a cookbook for gamers' on their BINGO card?
>>211559118Not sure why your parents neglected you as a child but I do know why you were bullied at school and are friendless now.
>>211559286anon, i don't know if you know this people talk about ds9 and babylon 5 together a lot

>The last episode when Sheridans walks in the empty space station and reminiscing
It kind of felt like the show "ended" after the ancients BTFO and the new stuff they tried to build up never really got a proper conclusion.
>>211559487>he didn't read the tie-in novels
>>211554170He didn't just scold them. He told them their game was over. That they couldn't hide their intentions anymore and that they wouldn't be picking a side so they should just get the fuck out.
>>211559431It was the sets, they were all made out of asbestos and other super toxic shit. Fucked up half of the cast and crew.
>>211559431What? The blonde just switched careers iirc, she wanted to be a news anchor or whatever.

Was this guy right about telepaths? If we had telepaths in our society, would we have a psi corps?
>>211558240legit one of Dourif's most intense performances and it didn't involve him completely mugging with veins in his neck bulging
>>211567373He was based and should have won. Byron garbage proved that even the non-psycorps telepaths needed to be eliminated.
I loved Babylon 5 trying to be realistic. The spinning sections, the problems, and benefits that causes. Such as they travel down a train the middle, and someone plants a bomb in the car, so Sheridan can jump out and float towards the outer edge, but it's moving so fast it'll kill him anyway.
>>211567809While that did lead to the absolute kino scene of Kosh "revealing" themselves. It always seemed stupid that after the politcal strife that had just happened, that Sheridan would be essentially taking the bus to an important political meeting.
>>211568961I just like the spinning and more real ways of creating gravity and problems with space travel
>>211545787Only 2 of the movies are worth watching . Call to arms and the second to last one can't remember the name
>>211558240This show really had some fantastic writing
