Couldn't agree more. Babylon 5 is possibly the best sci-fi ever put to screen.
The overall story arc is so unbelievably well-executed, the special effects and the costumes etc felt beyond their time; and every race of alien, every inividual, had such great importance. The Bible WISHES it was as cohesive as the Babylon 5 story.

Fun fact: Many people wonder why Claudia’s Babylon 5 character completely changed between seasons. According to her autobiography, Claudia had dinner with JMS after the first season and they had an awkward moment when she realized that JMS considered it a date and she didn't. JMS thought she was into older guys because she had been married to Gary Devore (google that guy, very deep and unsolved rabbit hole) who was 24 years her senior. However, Claudia had at this point decided that she liked really young guys more and was dating dudes who were literally still in high school. She claims JMS never treated her the same after that dinner and discovering that she was turning into a cougar.

Claudia is one of the worst actresses of all time desu and her replacement was 100x better. Also alcoholics are subhumans.

Yes, the whole idea is vastly different cultures not understanding each other, making terrible mistakes, and when emotions are high setting a course of action that may have been too harsh. He's a classic Shakespearian tragedy and he plays it perfectly. Every scene he is in is permanently burned into my brain. I honestly think it might very well be the greatest performance of any actor.

As a fan there are a number of things I don't like about Babylon 5. Marcus / Ivanova romance was lame. Whole Byron plot was insufferable. Psycorps could have been more than just evil baddies, in later seasons they tried to backpedal a bit on that. When they were gathering up their forces at the end despite the 'danger' of the Old Ones nothing bad ever happened to anybody. Nobody even got knocked back into some bridge panels or anything.

Season 5 was a disaster when viewed as a whole. Some of the episodes were OK and what the fans wanted was "more random Babylon 5 stories" on Usenet where JMS hung out so he indulged. Even had a number of great guest writers / fans of the show working on that season. Actually a LOT of Babylon 5 stuff in the show was the result of Internet fans nitpicking it and JMS either defending his goof up but often he would go with the consensus. It was probably the first, and last, somewhat interactive TV show that saw the show runner not only directly interacting with Internet nerds but getting into flame wars with them too.

What made it all so amazing was that JMS took it so much further. Plenty of shows could have started off with a basic misunderstanding plot. But he didn't just leave it at that and went on through multiple seasons and some of the best episodes fleshing out the background of the war and the true tragedy of it. How humans and mimbari had shared souls and they were basically wiping out their own kind. To be fair Sharidan should have left a note telling the future mimbari not to go full autism on the human apes they would meet in a few thousand years. But I guess that would be started some sort of time paradox.

One extremely minor complaint I have, and this isn't a problem unique to B5, but that scene is from an episode where they're doing like a religious cultural exchange, and every alien race apparently has just one religion for the entire species.

I read the summaries of the last 2 Babylon 5 episodes, I've been putting them off, partially because im waiting until ive seen the movies, and partially because i dont want it to end. However i know one of the movies is a prequel, and the other two have been described to me as "monster of the week episodes". Does that mean that we dont see the end of Londo's arc? I loved Babylon 5 trying to be realistic. The spinning sections, the problems, and benefits that causes. Such as they travel down a train the middle, and someone plants a bomb in the car, so Sheridan can jump out and float towards the outer edge, but it's moving so fast it'll kill him anyway.
