Sure if you don't want to pirate it. It's kino imo.
It is literally a Cinderella adaptation though, it's not not just Cinderella "themed." It's the story of Cinderella but from one of her sister's perspective and with body horror.
I've seen some complaints that it was "predictable" from people who clearly didn't realize that this is an actual Cinderella movie.

Halloween is my least favorite of the "big 4" (no matter if you count Friday the 13th Part 1 or 2, hot take but I like the F13 feel more) but I still absolutely love it, fantastic movie that I love more each time I watch it. I actually think I was a bit "underwhelmed" on my first watch too but it's really stuck on me, I always imagine seeing Michael stalking me when I'm walking around in the Fall.

None of those are even his best movies and protip.
It depends on what level of comfy you want with Argento.
You want NOIR you watch Deep Red.
You want folktale you watch Suspiria.
Phenomena is just good fun though. The entire movie is the best cheese.

Plenty. That picture was taken from Phantom of the Paradise which is a must-see if you enjoyed Suspiria and Shock Treatment. Those three are my favorite but there's also Inserts, Love and Death (wheat), Stardust Memories, etc. She was in Nightbitch of course if you're looking for something recent. Plus she shows up for a few scenes in Safe (1996) and Minority Report.

Suspiria remake is vastly inferior to the original but that doesn't mean much because it was a masterpiece. I definitely think it's one of Guadagnino's best and it's a decent movie. You will mostly stay for Swinton and Goth's perfomance, Johnson is a bit more shallow.

I personally really liked it but I also really like Pierce's other films. Underrated director imo, pure atmospheric kinos.
>>211515625
I like Suspiria a lot more than Inferno, Inferno is good but it's nowhere near my top Argento. I personally don't find the atmosphere or cinematography as interesting as in Suspiria.
Like I said, Tenebrae is the other true 10/10 Argento masterpiece imo. That's how you do a great giallo/slasher while also weaving some non-gay commentary into it.
I respect any Argentochad's opinion though.

Suzy was a good character in the original because she was brave when she very realistically could and should have died.

They're the comfiest horror movies around. Especially 2 and 4. 5-6 are too but they perfectly capture that small town autumnal feel. You combine that with Mike getting Goku level power with each sequel, Loomis descending more and more into madness and throw in the occasional babe then you got top tier cinema.

He sounds based.
Is that the comic about the nerds at the comic book store or whatever? Or something else? I'm curious, media that depicts "Italian horror fans" can't be super duper common. The male lead in May (2002) is an Argento superfan though which is amusing.

We should hopefully be getting news about Smile 3 soon. I don't like the comparisons to Final Destination, because the Smile movies are much better. Invisible monsters are weak imo, I like the creativity that goes into creature design, as well as proper make up and practical effects work. Reminds me of the good ol' days of horror.

1 is good and 2 is great imo. 1 is more of a "serious" 2010s-esque trauma movie crossed with Ring/It Follows and jumpscares, 2 took that and turned it into more of an over the top gore movie in the post-Terrier 2 horror era. Entertaining series that has adapted to the times.

It's a exploitation action film, not horror, but Switchblade Sisters is another Jack Hill movie I really like. The main actress was the voice of Ranbow Brite. I also assume the Elle Driver character in Kill Bill was somewhat based on Patch from this film.

I like the idea of impending doom in the movie, but Smile does that and also has a cool monster. It's like the better Final Destination. Also I like the focus on one singular protag rather than the group of characters like in slashers.

Definitely, but at that point I'd rather watch Scream or a slasher. I like Thanksgiving (2023) even though it looks literally like a Scream movie from a few years ago. Smile plays more on psych horror akin to The Thing, which is my bread and butter.

That's kinda why I like the first one more. The gloominess is so omnipresent that when it gets to the more silly implausible parts like the monster reveal, it's actually somehow more shocking and creepy 'cause it's unexpected. It's by no means perfect or even a quality film, I'll be the first to admit. But it does try, and there's little things like hidden smiles throughout the film. For example Victoria Muรฑoz's necklace resembles the monster. This was clearly a deliberate choice on the part of Parker Finn.

Just finished The Ugly Stepsister. It was pretty enjoyable. Definitely an interesting take on the Cinderella story.

It reminded me a lot of The Substance and even Poor Things, with that angsty feminist "the things women must go through for the pleasure of men" theme. Not off-putting, though.
For a digitally shot movie, it also looks pretty nice at times.

It is, but I can accept that. Part of why I like watching movies is to see other peoples' perspectives, and this was done a lot more tastefully than something like Poor Things, which was written by a bunch of ugly old men trying to convince pretty young women that they should be fucking ugly old men

Final Destination is definitively superior to Smile though... especially if you take The Final Destination out of the equation. Smile 1 really only compares to Final Destination 3 and 5..... Smile 2 is comparable to the other 3 definitely, but that's one movie vs three. The Smile movies do have Kyle Gallner and that trumps a lot of anything Final Destination has to offer. There is also the creature design aspect as you mentioned. But the Final Destination movies have some of the most creative kills in horror. Just look at the MRI one from Bloodlines, it's wild that that was executed on a studio level budget.

Yeah, I love PS2 tier CG kills and someone getting their head impaled / crushed by a launched object for the 100th time, so creative all they do is repeat the exact same death scene over and over 90% of the time.

The music was nice, with a good mix of classical and euro-techno. 95% of what I watch is old films with mono audio, but I have a decent surround sound speaker kit that really shows its worth with these newer movies, so I can appreciate that aspect.

When I had some money, I bought a lot of decent scotch and bourbon like Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Four Roses single barrel, Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, or red wine in the $15-20 range. Fresh local IPAs, triples or imperials, the kind of shit that's $5 a can. During October, it'd be lots of pumpkin beers, red wine, and absinthe. Occasionally standard cocktails like manhattans or martinis, but usually just straight booze.
Now I'm down to Yuengling beer, Wild Turkey 101, and boxed wines (drinking Bota Box Dark Malbec right now, which coincidentally has a very Halloweeny design), and occasionally Beefeater gin and Johnnie Walker black label. I'm a shadow of what I was

I'm guessing you're not American. Here, they're pretty common during the season. I won't say that they're the best tasting beer you'll ever have, but being such a distinct flavor, nothing else puts me so quickly into the spirit of the season. The labels alone really perk me up and get me in the mood.

I wish I could find this beer again (pic), but it's been unavailable for the last few years for me in my area. I have great memories sipping back on this throughout early /hor/ and watching my way through lots of kino, especially the Evil Dead TV series. Carving pumpkins, eating lots of chocolate, being a bit creative and decorative. Very little makes me happy these days, but a good, partly drunken Halloween season is such a relief from everything else.
