I tried watching The Godfather Part II today, and I will admit the beginning was kinda good, and it had a few moments of dopamine release, but Jesus Christ I had to discipline myself in every moment to try and watch it, and by the halfway point I just fucking couldn't anymore.

Why can't people fucking admit The Godfather movies have some fucking AWESOME moments, and the world-building and costumes are fucking fantastic, the settings wonderful, the acting superb, but Jesus Christ Coppola, pick up the fucking pace you monkey piece of shit.

what parts of GF2 were boring? the whole point was to cut back and forth betwen young Don and modern Michael
they even cut out important scenes like explaing why michael was pissed at Tom at the end of the film (he found out tom was cheating on his wife)

It just felt like the scenes that were soft-speaking and mostly silent, with a few exceptions (extorting Anglo) were generally uninteresting and unengaging to watch. It just felt like there was no strong suspense or any reason to pay attention really closely, and the shots themselves weren't that visually interesting. If you're going to have really still, slow shots with little motion and soft-speaking characters, then there better be some fucking suspense or something to warrant the relatively boring setup.

I watched the 7 hour The Godfather Saga/A Novel For Television cut and even though I obviously couldn't do it in a single sitting I really appreciated the scenes being chronological even though I usually would hate edits like that. I love the Vito scenes in GF2 just as much as the Michael ones but I get kind of pleb filtered by them cutting back and forth between them, I feel like I start getting invested in one era and then it switches to the other and blueballs me.

Also I get the scenes were still important and all to the plot and the dialogue was still necessary, but I'm just not a fan of the film's modus operandi. I think you got it wrong though, I still really appreciate the film and understand why people consider it a masterpiece. It very much is. Read what I wrote in my first post. I don't disagree that's it's a masterfully crafted film, it's just not that enthralling to be entertained by.

They left out the history of Luca Brasi
In the film they did not talk about Brasi his past nor did they explane what he already had done

In Italy Luca was the most notorious legendary killer in Italian history he killed cementaries full of people
You could say he was the Italian Richard Kuklinksky and Roy DeMeo combined
In Italy they used to whisper stories about how he'd killed people to their children so they would obey their parents

Thinking back about some of the work Luca did in Italy makes me shit my pants to this day

It's not paced poorly. It's like reading Crime and Punishment (which I've read). It's not bad or overly boring, but the fact that you have sit through 3 hrs 22 mins of it is simply too much.

Again, it's like Jaws. Mind-blowing for the time, but now all you can see is it's influence on movies made after it.

You don't get it. We're all still in film school and have to pretend that it's still good. Not Due to its influence and its importance in the history of film. It is inherently watchable and enjoyable. Today.
It's not a bunch of idiots who can't act and horrific chalk and dust in everyone's hair and face which won an Oscar for for make-up for some reason. It's not boring at all. It's objectively good, because a bunch of pedophiles gave it awards and a bunch of retards who love those pedophiles gave it high review scores. You have to like it. Reddit demands it.

The โ€œactorโ€ Lenny Montana was an actual mob enforcer and doorman hired because the mafia was wondering what the whole film about (the crew was also unionized, Teamsters etc so decision was made to keep in their good side). Montana was also an ex pro wrestler so understood theatre and getting lines, but was absolutely typecast. He was also a huge fan of Brando (a lot of the mob were, his whole tough guy casting) and was extremely nervous about his lines. His whole โ€œmay you have a masculine childโ€ preparation was him legitimately stumbling trying to learn his lines, and the delivery wasnโ€™t really acting; he was nervous. Brando really buddied up to him, and when they had to do the scene were Luca is strangled, Brando told him about method acting. So Montana asked Brando and Coppola if the actor killing him could really strangle him. Thatโ€™s what you seeโ€ฆ..

using this thread to say Godfather Part III gets hated too much. I get it, its nowhere near as good as the first two. But telling the story of Michael living with all the guilt of the shit he has done to make his huge empire is a good story. His emotions are seeping through, he is desperate for some assurance from someone and when he loses the person most important to him the mask slips. Pacino channels god tier acting in it.

Also Vincent is a believable and solid character in the Godfather story.

But the problem with Part III is that
>But telling the story of Michael living with all the guilt of the shit he has done to make his huge empire is a good story
This could have easily been added as a short epilogue at the end of Part II. I feel like Coppola, being the pretentious faggot that he is, insisted that whatever closure there was had to be brought through an entire film. It's not BAD, but it's unnecessary and there's not much creative room left for it to be as good.
