The preservationists are disgusting degenerate freaks though well intentioned, their society is generally pretty cringey. While the corporation rim are almost soulless, they're also generally more likable from what we've seen.
I kinda assumed we're meant to associate with the robot more than anyone else, especially given his dialogue, "Kill me now" whenever the hippies say literally anything. Which was meant to be kinda silly itself given it's name is literally "Murderbot".

The two of them aren't insufferable like the other three. Black Woman is nice and seems like a decent person. No ultra girl boss moments with her. She's just trying to keep the people together and she has panic attacks.
The Tech guy isn't a fag like the others and is a bit weird.
And of course Murderbot is enjoyable to watch.

The other three are fucking awful. Giga faggots. Annoying as fuck. Just complete dog shit.

Is it very different from the books and how so?

I've heard from friends in the industry that failed writers or producers will use someone elses script or book, something popular or with an established fanbase, to get their own ideas into television and film.
Or that the creators of the shows tend to think their farts don't smell and that their writing or ideas are better and edit these shows because something is "stupid" or whatever.
A more recent show I can remember that was a lot like the books was the Terminal List. They did make changes, but it was mostly toning things down for ratings. Oh, and they changed the hot reporter into a frumpy asian girl, probably for diversity check list standards.

Oh man, it's been many years since I read the first novel but basically making it so slow, shitty dialogue, the robot showing his face so much plus he seems dumbed down compared to how sharp/fast he is in the novel, just not recommended.

the cast is utterly repulsive, both in character and appearance. But Skarsgård is such a charisma machine that he makes the show almost watchable. Though they can fuck off with the 23 minute episodes
