My point was that maybe they won't reference a specific year, and you're just to assume that COVID happened in 2007 or whatever. As other anons have pointed out, specifically setting the show in 2025, with Bobby now having an implied birth year of 2000, and carry everything else back from there, would mess up the backstories and characterizations of certain characters. Granted, who knows if they really give enough of a shit, and I'm already getting the sense that this will be a flop that won't last for more than one season.
