I liked it, I thought it had some good performances and I really liked everything a bout the vampires. Some great music too. The messaging was on the nose but I couldn't really say that any of it was blatantly untrue, at least in a historical context. I think the reason is a combination of it actually being a decent little flick and because it's a movie about black people and racism. There is a subset of the population, to which basically all critics belong, that is absolutely obsessed with that sort of stuff.

I enjoyed it and it was carried hard by Remmick. It's praise is amplified massively by the fact it's a black movie, same way it happened with fucking Black Panther years ago. The worst aspect is Michael B. Jordan I'd say - he's a guy who's a decent performer cause of his body and some degree of charm but not a good actor - he wasn't remotely believable as these twins who's roots are the Jim Crow Deep South (the rest of the blacks were though). No, it's pretty much the entire movie, it's just that Coogler is more competent than the average hollywood hack so it doesn't feel like you're being beaten over the head with it too badly. For example the car ride when they pick up Delta Slim is fairly early in the movie. I'm not saying it's inherently bad, just that it's the main focus of the movie. I was wondering how the vampires were gonna get themselves invited, I was expecting a battle of wits. Instead they just have a 2 minutes mass brawl then it's over.

The OST itself is fantastic but there are multiple scenes where the music doesn't fit. For example the scene where Stack is trying to convince Smoke to come outside after he gets turned.
