The first line of the movie is “This will begin to make things right.” Prequel hatred birthed this shitty trilogy. Before the movie even came out, there was behind the scenes videos with nonstop “WOW look at all these practical effects! Boy, if a star wars movie ever used CGI, it just wouldn’t be star wars at all!”. Along with all the fucktards saying “Guys, Star Wars is back!”

But Disney wasn't ready to take even a single risk so they asked JJ to undo everything potentially interesting and bring back Palpatine for nostalgia. You can see it happening in real time at the end of Last Jedi, when Kylo offers Rey that deal you can feel the Disney execs stepping in and saying "NO! MAKE IT MORE FORMULAIC!" and then the whole ending is just standard Star Wars fare after that.
