No, Deku "saves" the inner child Tenko Shimura by forcefully transferring/smashing all his OFA Quirks at him to destroy his mental barriers and enter his mindscape through their connected Quirks, but AFO takes over and breaks Shigaraki by revealing that his entire life was manufactured, from his birth to his Quirk, which was just a stripped down version of Overhaul's Quirk. Deku awakens Quirkless and without his arms which were destroyed when he grabbed Tenko's hands when he was reliving all his trauma. AFO is now in full control, and OFA was destroyed in the process of getting into Shigaraki's mind. In the end, Deku realizes killing AFO and the remnants of Tenko Shimura is the only solution, and the bits of vestiges that remain between them rip AFO apart as his body crumbles in real life.

It's justified in the sense that it was always a Quirk passed around to stop AFO, so it fulfills its purpose. They also said that Deku was likely the last person who would be able to fully utilize it due to being Quirkless, as someone with a Quirk would die far earlier as their body wouldn't be able to take the strain. The whole vestiges and practicing with their Quirks does end up helping out in the epilogue where he gets All Might's power suit that can mimic all his friends' Quirks.

I went to go watch the 4K Mononoke re-release earlier this year and before it there was a bunch of trailers for anime movies (Demon Slayer?). It was the dumbest, ugliest looking shit I've ever seen. The contrast between the spastic digital animation of le epic ninja fights made to appeal to 14 year olds, and the beautiful hand drawn contemplative landscapes and moving scores of Mononoke was enough to suck all the hope out of my body for the future of animation. RIP anime, it had a decent run but the industry has finished it's race to the bottom and the financial bean counters will never allow for kino to be made again.
