it sucks because the premise and set design are so fucking good and they ruin it all by having the characters make retarded decisions. Great example of bad writing bringing down a whole production despite the world building being the whole reason you tune in. It's especially dumb because they had two options, either explain why people are making bad choices (side effect of cryo?) or have the super advanced ancient alien tech overwhelm them in a multitude of way.
instead they have the mapping expert get lost.

Notice how there are five characters that are supposed to be the "boss" yet nobody actually is.

Idris Elba is the captain of the ship. He's supposed to be highest authority within it, but he just receives orders. His only decision is to ram the Prometheus against the alien ship.

Charlize is the "company boss". She represents the money and hires half of the crew, yet she's never informed of anything and no one follows her orders. And worst of all, she's deauthorized by a fucking hologram in the first 15 minutes:

Noomi and Not-Tom Hardy are the "scientific bosses", but we know that the expedition is not scientific in any way. They are responsible of the worst mistakes (helmet removal, jump out of the ship during a storm...)

Finally, Guy Pierce, the richest guy in the world, a dying rich guy who doesn't give a shit about science, who doesn't give a shit about his daughter, who has faked out his death because unknown reasons, and just want to live longer, even if that means poisoning members of the crew for stupid reasons.

Obviously, this clusterfuck hierarchy is done by Weyland. He hired retards and didn't bother at all about their security. He probably had some other sources about the engineers beyond the retarded Noomi theory (durr cave paintings), he directs David with clear commands and is the only one with a defined agenda.

The main question is, why he had to fake his death and organize a stupid expedition with retards he didn't give a shit for? Because unknown reasons.

awful commentary on abortion and it being injected into the xenomorph lore was a mistake. Ridley sucks at making films, he's a S tier cinematographer. Blade runner sucks, had no vision, but the dystopian jap shit is amazing, Alien though is a genuine masterpiece. Prometheus not only has no clear intention for its easter eggs, its call backs or its various sacrificial chambers thorough the franchise. AVP is a better film then Prometheus, with a better girl boss and better aliens. Ridley shouldn't delude himself he made a film better then the AVP sequels
