Its a brilliant movie and the only movie I know of that shows how first contact with AYYYS would actually work, but then it is completely bogged down by the dead daughter flashback shit that lets it down.
The time being linear gift was cool but was not given a decent effect in the grand of things.
I would unironically like to see a sequel where in 1000s of years the AYYs come back for the help they need and all of humanity can see time in a non linear way, but the short story didn't really plan for that anyway so some actual talented person would have to make it, and lets face it, talented creators like that dont work in movies any more.

Any suggestions for other good 1st contact with AYYYs movies?

Its decent for genre fiction. But as with all genre shit, take the hype with a grain of salt. Even Blindsight is a rehash of another novel from the 70s. Also, does anyone know if there is a movie in the works or some meme from Blindsight? There has been a huge uptick in people talking about it recently.

actual ayys would be coming down already speaking english, or any other language for that matter, because they can pick when and where to make contact, so they might as well take some extra time to learn our language to make it easier. they won't just stumble upon earth and visit the same day, they will observe and document for decades, maybe centuries beforehand.

Wow, good thing you know for a fact that alien life completely understands the inner workings of our brains, already knows all languages, natural and artificial, would 100% contact us in a human-like way and would make such contact easy for humans. It's amazing that you already know exactly how they operate to the point where you can even predict their military movements.

Its awful. I never understood the hype. Its a bunch of cyberpunk type humans and literal vampires, who are reintroduced from genes discovered in autists and psychopaths. >already knows all languages
they dont have to, but they will have complete control over when, where and how to make contact with us. after all, its them showing up at our doorstep. it only makes sense from a logical perspective to prepare for it, which means learning our language beforehand. they can literally spend a decade doing it if they want to, it doesnt matter because they will be in complete control of the situation. you will see language tools translating hundreds of languages in real time within your lifetime, this would be childsplay for aliens than can travel between stars.

>contact us in a human-like way and would make such contact easy for humans.
why the fuck wouldnt they? if contact is the purpose, then they would have to do it in a way that it somehow understandable to humans, even if they are for some reason millions of years advanced, you wouldnt throw a book at a dog's feet in order to "communicate" with them either, you do it in a way so they can understand what you want.

>It's amazing that you already know exactly how they operate
I assume nothing except intent, logical reasoning, and general intelligence. which are literally the basics for an alien civilization making contact with us.

those stories are works of literature, the theme of failure to communicate exists for narrative and story purposes. its not how it would unfold in reality.

aliens landing on earth one day practically guarantees than they will have observed us for plenty of time beforehand and will speak our language(s). they will choose a specific time and place to make contact and will be well prepared for it. there is zero reason to do contact any other way. them just landing in times square and hoping we will work things out is completely ridiculous, and again, only works as a storytelling tool.

Never heard of this but virus is more like an action jorror flick.
I was thinking more about AYYYs coming to earth for first contact to let their presence be known. like arival, and then it is dealt with in a more logical way, where the first person communicating with them would be a world class linguist, not world leaders or some military group or some shit like that.
Of course there are lots of horror or action first contact shit flicks and TV shows though.

The problem at hand is that:
1) Aaays came
2) They aren't nice and don't mean well
3) They have to be stopped
The rest is bunch of planners, logisticians and similar kind of people facing the issues that keep popping up,

>ayys would land on earth with their dicks in their hands and expect humanity to do all the heavy lifting of first contact for no reason.
you can sperg all you want, but aliens will be speaking english if there will ever be a deliberate first contact on earth.
accidental encounters or us running into them are obviously a different matter

LOST fucked TV forever.
Even now 95% of the TV shit that is made is some long drawn out 2deep4u BS that ends on cliffhangers that they have no actual ending for and long it out for as long as they can or cancel it with no actual conclusion.
Why I basically only ever watch mini series.

Motherfucker no one is learning polish so they can read lem in the original language.
Though futurological congress and cyberiad has so much wordplay I've always been curious how faithfully the translations are.
