Why did Ethan care about about Grace so much? They barely spent any time together and she tried to double cross him multiple times. Yet by the last movie the audience is supposed to think they were in love?

She was just supposed to be a character meant for that one scene at the end of TFR and that was it. Ilsa was supposed to be the love interest but Ferguson bit the hand that fed her and they wrote her out and slotted Grace where she was supposed to be in. The whole two-parter is a huge blight on Tom's otherwise excellent career. Two wet fart films released at the wrong time and with incredibly choppy execution. He should give MI a rest for good and make other stuff which he finally is. He put too much of his time in those movies.
Just more weirdness that comes out of the dumb idea to make this a two parter in the first place
