Strange New Worlds is only supposed to run for 16 more episodes through 2027
Starfleet Academy is guaranteed at least 20 episodes through 2026
The yet-untitled live action sitcom may or may not even be made.
After that, it'll probably die.
Oh well.

>The yet-untitled live action sitcom may or may not even be made
Skydance decides what gets greenlit at this point, they have veto rights despite not being in charge yet. I somehow doubt David Ellison (the Mission Impossible and Top Gun Maverick guy) is interested in an ego project by an actress who has never written a script before and the guy who made Dear White People.

The truth about NuTrek "fans" is that they're parasites. They can't sustain their own fan spaces so they invade and ruin someone else's, but 4chan is one of the last few places where you can actually tell them that their gaping axe wound doesn't make them real women. They are envious little troons.
But they'll move on soon enough. You can't build a fandom on shitty shows that are only good for trolling.

Data took over or seriously threatened the ship at least three times that I can remember, and Geordi's visor caused him to nearly assassinate someone and then lost the whole ship. There's really no reason either is even allowed to serve anymore, they're way worse than Ensign Ro.

Nimoy wasn't great, he was just first. He failed to convey the emotionless posture of a Vulcan more often than not, and was just sort of a straight man human. Vulcans should always be a little bit wooden.

I like a lot of things about Gilroy's work but I think he's a little subversive for Trek. Maybe he could write something like DS9 in a really nice, serialized way, but he's not going to have an episodic style show that gets back to the fundamental optimism of Trek and that's what we need right now. Back to basics.

Once that is re-established, then you can have a DS9 type story again.

Because they want to. The same reason anyone in the Federation does any job, "to better themselves, and the rest of humanity."

It has less to do with inconsistency and more to do with Gene Rodenberry being rather naively optimistic when it comes to human nature.

>no money means communism
This is the level of political literacy of the average Star Trek fan, everyone. The Federation has very little in common with communism, it's a highly individualistic society with extreme pressure on success. It's an idealized, money-less version of the American Dream really. If you seriously think China is closer to Roddenberry's utopia than the United States, I'm really not sure how can I help you.
In reality, the Federation represents a form merit-based economy, where service and excellence grants you better social status. Private property is alive and kicking as proven by Picard's family vineyard. If you're looking for a real political system close to the Federation, maybe resource-based economy, but it's not a perfect match either.

>They give everything to everyone. There is no class system and no poor people
...which is essentially what communism, in its 'ideal' form, is. When people say "real communism has never been tried" this is the 'real communism' they're talking about.
But we don't live in Star Trek so 'real communism' is effectively impossible, because scarcity still exists, and unlike in Star Trek, most people are not altruistic and self-sacrificial.
>Nothing like what modern communism is like
Because 'modern communism' does not exist in the context of a post-scarcity society like the Federation.

They don't have currency though, and 'private property' in the context of the Federation is just shit like your house and maybe a small 'business' like a restaurant, except said 'business' doesn't have to worry about being profitable. "Cashless" would imply that everyone still has to pay for everything, just that they pay for it by swiping a futuristic credit card. Which they clearly don't do.

Chateau Picard has been in the Picard family since before fucking WW2. It doesn't really tell us much about the Federation's economic system at large, other than letting us know that they don't seize people's property.
Also, Chateau Picard is not a business at this point, it's more like a hobby farm.

The rest of your post is misunderstanding what I'm saying (I am not saying the Federation is communist, or that it resembles any communist country, what I'm saying is that it's closer to the unrealistic ideal of communism than it is to capitalism. Not the communism that actually gets implemented in reality, but the purely ideological fantasy of a classless, moneyless society), mixed with a dose of believing that modern China can be called 'communist' in anything but name.
The modern United States is nothing like Rodenberry's utopia. In Rodenberry's utopia, you don't elect retarded billionaires. In Rodenberry's utopia, you don't have to pay for healthcare. In Rodenberry's utopia, you don't have the fucking CIA doing heinous shit, or the ATF burning people alive. I wasn't talking about modern United States. I was talking about the platonic ideal of the American Dream. TOS is essentially cowboys in space, Captain Kirk is the all-American boyscout ideal. Star Trek likes to think it's areligious but it's very deeply rooted in the Protestant work ethic.

He actually echoes some of my thoughts about WoK. It is a good movie but it undoubtedly took the Star Trek movie franchise into an action-adventure movie direction. I also feel WoK itself is a bit overrated and lacks Star Trek flavor. But then again I think TMP:TDE is the best Trek film of all time so that clearly makes me an outlier.

Roddenberry's optimistic future is important and all but his cult of personality fucking confounds me, and clearly he bought into it too. NuTrek being so shit has revived a lot of the dogmatic proselytizing for Gene's Visionโ„ข in its purest form, but even TNG under his direct supervision didn't obey his own edicts very faithfully. Everything in moderation.
>>211623944
I understand this criticism but I think WoK and the other TOS movies strike a satisfying balance of action-adventure and Trek sophistication and optimism. The TNG movies are when the franchise descended into violent action schlock. TMP is indeed the best though.

The first TOS movie feels like a long TOS episode.
Wrath of Khan and everything that follows feels like an alternate universe, a more action movie, comedic Star Trek tailor made for the big screen.

The thing I dislike about WoK is that it really isn't a sci-fi movie. You could take the entire plot and move it into a straight contemporary or period naval setting with no major alterations. There are also isn't character depth to it. With TMP you get an overarching sci-fi narrative that fits into the deeper character themes about Kirk's midlife crisis. WoK lacks that sort of depth, it's just a played straight action film where a bad guy comes back for revenge and must be stopped.

>Then why do people work in dilithium mines?
Because it is their way of contributing to society.

>What's their motivation?
Contributing to society. Not being bored.

>Admit it, your favorite show is hideously inconsistent.
It WOULD be if they didn't literally say that everyone's literal motivation is to contribute to society. everyones needs are taken care of in Star Trek so everyone basically works simply to contribute to society and not be bored. Like seriously, people take shitty jobs in real life that they take pride in when there are less shitty jobs that pay way more. The whole point of Star Trek is that humanity has evolved beyond the concept of capitalism.

Also, I'm mad that I can't get Tendi's hairstyle in STO.

The Federation is utopian capitalism because the means of production are largely owned by private citizens rather than the state. We can see that in Dilithium miners and the various independent colonists. The Federation simply enforces laws and provides support. The utopian aspect is that all forms of capital predation have been dealt with in one way or another.

Combs was a big part of why the Vorta were so unsettling and effective as villains.
>Jeffrey Combs was, however, instrumental in developing the Vorta. "I kind of had a lot [โ€ฆ] [of] input into kind of discovering and fleshing out who this species were," he remembered, "and how they carried themselves, and how they operated and deceived and reassured you and had youโ€ฆ killed." Combs enjoyed influencing "what this whole race of people is, what the Vorta's values are and what makes them tick."

They have replicators, dummy. They rebuild shuttlepods piece-by-piece. Like in that Johnny Cash song. There's an entire 'sode where the design and build a shuttle from scratch. The Delta Flyer. So, obviously that can repair and build ships when they already have the specs and parts in the computer's database. Silly point. Fully leaning into the premise. And having a desperate situation. Alone in the Delta Quadrant. Fighting to survive. Fighting amongst themselves, with a half Markey crew. Like Year of Hell. But, the whole show. Bad idea. Too grimdark. Too edgy. Too mallwalkery. Too NuTreky. I'm glad they kept it fun.

He had been accusing Kevin Spacey of that shit for years, but everyone ignored him.
Once he gained a sizeable following with his STD role, he immediately used it to resume accusations. Which caused the Weinstein effect of people joining the chorus.
Kevin Spacey replied he literally doesn't remember meeting Rapp 30 years ago, but if something did happen, he is sorry for it.

Lorca was great, but 90% of the character was just Jason Isaacs's swagger leaking, certainly not the writing.
I don't think he is capable of writing a poor performance, no matter how little he is given.

โ€œCarpet trekโ€ wasnโ€™t cancelled, it had 21 seasons of television stretched over 14 years, it made sense creatively to pivot away from it with enterprise. The new shows have all just been pathetic trend chasers made by bad writers actors and producers in a desperate bid to copy whatever the most profitable thing was at the time rather than outright creative endeavors with anything to say
