I'm a bit late of the game and I'm not the biggest Star Trek fan, but I have to wonder why Paramount wasted about a decade making these shows?

I never hear anyone talk about them, basically no one is watching them, they don't win any awards, and the fans hate them.
It's pretty obvious that Paramount is winding down their Star Trek stuff because all of these shows except Strange New Worlds have been cancelled and that show is probably ending after the upcoming season.

The only reason people use Paramount Plus is for Tyler Sheridan shows, yet Paramount kept making bad Star Trek shows no one watched, why?

Trek died with the JJ Abrams reboot. That shit was NOT star Trek but they shilled it hard enough that people kind of accepted it, until the next two movies came out where even the retards went "ok this sucks". After that they started to pander to the woke crowd as was the norm since 2016 and the 'girlbusters' movie, which flopped, just like all of these shows you mention. It's been a decade and a half of bullshit, propaganda, gaslighting and now, indifference. They get what they fucking deserve.

All of the major companies switched to woke, girlboss, trans-fem bullshit at around the same time, and kept/keep producing it. It's not 'for' anyone, other than propaganda to make it look like "everyone's doing it, so it must be ok". They dont care if they lose money, they are funded by Blackrock to push it and have been for years. Now that certian govt NGO's like USAID, which was used for anything and everything BUT what it was made for, is gone , SOME of the money is drying up, so thats why you see a pullback on SOME things Leyla.

I viewed their handling of Star Trek similar to the way Sony handled Ghostbusters.

Not in the quality of the output of the rebooted material, which was a bad, but in how they market the franchise.
Sony pretended that Ghostbusters was this massive phenomenon that has massive reverence with the general public and it wasn't just a franchise from the 80s with 1 good movie, 1 bad movie, and a cartoon. They even try to do a fucking Ghostbusters convention.

Paramount did something similar, they clearly tried to FORCE Star Trek into this hierarchy equal to of Star Wars in the minds of the general public. They had all these conventions, the merch, the forced flood of TV shows for kids and adults. They wanted to gaslight the general public into caring about Star Trek and to make them believe that it's not just a thing that they know about through cultural osmosis and isn't mostly for nerds.

The problem is that the general public doesn't give a shit about Star Trek like they also don't give that much of a shit about Ghostbusters. It's a thing they know and it's a thing they've heard of, but they aren't going to watch or get deeply invested in and it doesn't matter how much Paramount tries to pretend, it won't change.

what does that mean? you mean it was advertised by the studio? yeah no shit.
star trek was always a nerd franchise, but it was famous enough that normies knew the name and a couple references like "beam me up, scotty". abrams took those superficial aspects and slapped them on a generic action movie and sold it to normies. wait why am I telling you this; you're trolling.

That´s not fair, The Offer is probably one of the best shows in years.

As for New Trek i can´t really argue with that. The final season of Piccard was decently good and Strange New Worlds is... an acceptable way to burn time when you don´t actually have any shows to watch i guess?

Then again Star Trek´s never been particularly good.

Star Trek was big when Star Wars had died between 1984-1998. Once Star Wars came back, Star Trek faded away.
The same thing happened in 2009-2014; Star Trek was "hot" again with the JewJew movies, and then once Star Wars came back, people immediately jumped to that.

Or weird space anomaly of the week.
People completely over hype the "utopian" aspect of Star Trek. It's very much an in the background thing.
You want proof? there are shows like Stargate that pretty much just took the format without the whole utopian angle, and worked just as well, and pulled in much the same audience.
If anything, the military aspect of ST is more important than the utopian aspect. People like the fantasy of serving on a vessel.

The utopian aspect of Star Trek is the background against which all of the drama of Trek unfolds. It's a crucial part of the human element of any Star Trek story, part of the human identity.

But it's always been vague and never really fleshed out because it was a Roddenberry thing, something he ardently insisted on, and he died. A lot of his other insistences were dropped -- that there could be no arguing on the ship, no interpersonal drama whatsoever -- but the utopic element of human existence is something that should never be abandoned, at least in the TNG+ timeline.
You can set very serious drama against that backdrop but you never fuck with the backdrop itself -- that is a big mistake Nu Trek made and why it doesn't feel like Star Trek.

Which brings us to a deeper problem: Star Trek fans are deeply confused about what they like, and tend to be pretentious assholes who talk up the "important" aspects of ST, so they can feel clever about being into an ultimately fairly corny and juvenile show.
>yes, there may have been an episode of the original series where they visit a spooky haunted house, and one where the Greek Gods are real, and one where they meet a cheesy 60's secret agent with a pet cat, but there was also an interracial kiss! See, it's important, actually!

No it wasn't. Not once was ST as big as SW. That was part of the appeal for a lot of fans of the show, it felt more mature and a bit more niche. I'd say that its cultural impact was far larger than its overall fame, but no one thinks that it was in any way more popular than Star Wars. The re-release of the OT blew every TNG movie out of the water in the late 90s in terms of revenue. You're smoking crack if you think otherwise.

Doesn't matter. It's a fantasy of what being in the military is like (for children, mostly).

Also the notion that the characters in Star Trek don't have friendly squabbles or compete with each other can only be born of people not actually watching the show, because that's like half of the show. That's the whole relationship between Kirk, Spock and Bones, or the relationship between Data and Polaski, or the relationship between O'Brien and Bashir. Or the relationship between Trip and T'pol.
The point is it's kept professional. It doesn't descend into soap opera drama.

Another issue is simply, Trek isn't what they want it to be.
Trek is a Philosophical Mystery show, in Military professionalism porn setting, set in space with a heafty dose of hard-scifi. The Trek they made was aimed at Normies, so was basically just Melodrama and I FUCKING LOVE SCIENCE *Soiface*. Which feels like some lame fucking LARP of Trek that misses the point.
It's also clear the writers do not get the ideology of the show. They view Trek's Progressiveness, as being progressive identity politics, when Star Treks progressiveness, was always based in scientific materialism. The future is the way it is, because the techological and scientific and materialist level, have completely reshaped society and culture, to be one where intellectual and/or physical excellence is the driving force in most peoples lives. Like what the fuck does "trans/non-binary" mean in the Trek universe, when Quark is literally turned into a woman in a surgery that takes less than an hour?
The reason old Star trek works across the political spectrum, is because it just makes sense society would be like this when you live in functionally a high tech utopia where everything is provided for you with a voice command and Capitalism and profit seeking no longer exists. The reason New Trek grates is because it feels literally like Democrat Idpol propaganda that is extremely out of place. Like LITERALLY having ICE in Trek? What the actual fuck?

Companies think their woke stuff will be more successful if it panders to a larger audience besides the white male because if they pander to the whole world then it's a whole world for the market size of what they're selling. It's simple business logic.

However in the execution they slander and abuse their old-school fan base as racist, sexist, and everything-else-ist, so they alienate their core customer that has carried their weight for decades.

Then it turns out that the rest of the world really doesn't give a shit about what white men like, just get off on taking it from whtie men, and really don't want to watch and support it. So that "modern diversity audience" never really shows up.

And then companies blame their old-school fan base that they themselves alienated for the failures and losses.

This has been a major problem with Hollywood lately, films and TV.

They're always trying to hit the billion dollar home-run instead of, for example, pandering to the niche audience Trek already has and trying to slowly grow it through quality.

The world went full woke when the gay pride movement highjacked the BLM movement as a defense mechanism. Because Gay and Trans pride is just white supremacy by other means. The whitest businesses in the world are queer businesses. But they get to keep the moniker of being "diverse" even though they are all white. It's a clever trick that has fooled a lot of people. They even put colored people front and center in there cartoons and print media to maintain the "diverse" illusion even though the people making it are all white. And then at the highest level of grift they roll out the most retarded backwards brained black person they can find as a public facing person even though it's really the other 99% whites at the top behind the scenes that are in charge pulling all the strings.

The gay pride takeover grift worked once with the blacks and BLM and they are already angling to do it again with the Mexicans. Everybody is always looking out for themselves. Whites simply cracked the code for a minute with the Pride movement.

I haven't heard of any of these except Picard which I watched with my family and we thought it was pretty alright. Other than that the only Star Trek media I've seen is a couple of the films, a couple of episodes from the original series, and some clips from TNG because one of my friends kept trying to convince me it was "based". So maybe NuTrek is marketed at people who aren't Star Trek fans and don't know anything about the franchise.

>>Paramount did something similar, they clearly tried to FORCE Star Trek into this hierarchy equal to of Star Wars in the minds of the general public
I'm sorry anon I'm not trying to flame you so I won't call you a faggot but you are dead wrong, Star Trek was LITERALLY as mainstream as Harry Potter if not more so for decades and was a lot more 'normie' than Star Wars.

Before they built the canopy over Fremont St in Vegas (a terrible decision' the casinos were looking for a big project they were going to fund together to bring people Downtown, their big idea was to build a true scale starship Enterprise (presumably the Constitution refit as the films were popular at the time). Paramount or Desilu or whoever held the rights at the time pulled it because they didn't want to tarnish Trek with Vegas. At no time did anyone consider building a Millennium Falcon. Star Wars relevance only ever existed around the films and within a couple of years it had become something for kids and sweaty weirdos. Trek aphorisms exist in the general lexicon which everyone understands, 'warp speed', 'beam me up Scotty'.

This might be a big surprise to people who can't remember it because it did change after decades but any normie would sit and watch an episode of Star Trek while Star Wars was much more a geek thing.

No the reason they scrapped the idea of a life size Enterprise was because it would have a) been ungodly expensive and b) the design does not work with gravity, the saucer would have fallen off, and the nacelles would have been unsupported. They literally explained this.

Okay but did they not consider building it? I am not making any relevant statement about why they did or didn't build it, the point is they wanted to. They didn't want to build a Saturn V or a Star Destroyer or Thunderbird 3, they wanted to build the Enterprise because in terms of actual cultural penetration Star trek was far beyond any similar franchise.
