Let's not pretend the first episode wasn't good
The graphic design was unbelievable. The comedy was ok.
huge MDE fan and its obvious something is missing and that thing was the director and adult swim tard wranglers
that was a pile of shit and it reeked of resentment from sam
I'M GONNA SAY IT
HAPPY WORLD DADDY WAS BETTER
Sam here, hope you all enjoy the show. After 2 years of filming and slaving away in editing, the band is officially back together doing sketch comedy again! Purchase it on MDE.TV, it's like one trip to McD's, you can spare that right? Also shave those neckbeards bros to get the hoes, 20% and free shipping by using the code SAMHYDE on manscape.com
MDE never dies! Please keep it real and positive, :-)
>>211661656>pile of shit and it reeked of resentment from samNo it didn't. Not why didn't you like it? Give reasons don't just say it's missing something
>>211661544 (OP)its not bad but i think s1 profited from them trying to cram as much shit as possible in each episode which they dont have to do now
Where can I watch

No
They need Andrew Ruse and it shows
>>211661716it was a rehash of every popular skit they did
>the wall show>moms it wasnt creative , it wasnt funny. it wasnt timely. Saying faggot doesnt hit anymore.
Nick cutting out of character was funny in that one part of the moms sketch but it was 10 years ago or something. Him doing it the entire sketch wasnt funny.
>>211661752Yeah it felt like the skits overstayed their welcome
A common problem in art is, when you remove the guy who says "no" (your stereotypical suit money-man), there are no limits, and so artists overindulge. Having limits (like, episodes must be 10 minutes) always makes the artists bitch, but it also often makes the art better
Hope they didn't fall into that trap. Seems like maybe they did
>>211661632Yeah they definitely do nail their aesthetic, good music too
>>211661824I'm sure it'll be out soon enough
>>211661835>it wasnt funnyI found myself giggling at it
I didn't say it was the best show ever, I said it don't pretend it wasn't good
>>211661824Just pirate them eventually. Probably when the season is fully out
The problem is sketches being two long. On adult swim they had to cut down sometimes days of filming to a 30 second - 2 minute sketch because the episodes were so short and it made the humor extremely snappy
>>211661957I want to shit on it as it releases
>they seriously did a clips sketch
>>211661544 (OP)It just wasn't that funny. It feels more like a fan project than an actual second season.
>>211661866it's weird because Sam constantly talks about stuff like that. How limitation breeds creativity, being unrestricted results in shit, etc. Weird how he doesn't apply that to his own art.
Visuals were great.

The drug skit had like 1 good gag.
The 2nd half of the football sketch kinda soured the whole thing and felt really uncomfortable and malicious as fucking gay as that sounds.
The 4 minutes of self-glazing at the end was actually just insulting.
Abysmal all around. Only redeeming quality was that the transitions and visual design were still alright.
I didn't hate it but it needed to be more concise. The Lettt daddy sketch was borderline incoherent and had nothing to say. The other sketches felt like filler videos from the youtube channel
>>211662341>haha we told you to leave and you left>we just epically TROLLED YOU bro

Alright, I just finished the YouTube cut of the episode.
What was basically the wall show part 2 fell fairly flat, but the NFL version of moms and the gardening on vicodin sketch were fairly good.
Impressed that they nailed the graphics and general look and feel of WP1 as well.
Hoping it gets better and hopefully they can do another season in the future with their Roger Stone money.
Damn it. I wanted to hate it but that was great. I forgot how good their style is
>>211661544 (OP)I was excited after the nigger opening and the football sketch but after that it kinda sucked

>>211663137yeah but moms was women and women aren't people
>>211661544 (OP)I chuckled a couple times. Hayden carried it. He was the only one that felt “fresh.” Others guys recycling old bits. Also no Charls for a whole episode? Whose choice was that?
It was rough and I think the ginger director Ruse from S1 did amazing work to contain the chaos and keep the humor sharp. The guys are still funny but something wasn’t right. I don’t think Alex should have directed. It’s like Ruse knew how to bring out their humor with directing/editing.
It felt too much like 1) they were just trying to imitate S1 without being original and 2) the editing was sloppy making most of the skits feel like an inside joke that you’re not apart of, so you’re wondering what’s the punchline, what’s even the premise, why is this funny? The NFL thing for example was horribly set up. Had no idea was the premise was.
All of this makes me realize how horrible it is to get old. Sam said they all still “had” it, but it seems he doesn’t even know what’s funny anymore.
PGL is still good. SR is still good. Palace is still good. Fishtank is sometimes okay. But I actually thought their recent skit of carjitsu was funnier than the episode. Maybe they took it too seriously and tried too hard sucking the life out of it all?
if the best "joke" they have is to mess with craigslist weirdos, I have very low hopes for the rest of this slop.

the camera panning to him cracking up while the guy was describing his pussy eating technique made me laugh the hardest out of this entire episode. hayden and charls somehow managed to carry the episode between their combined 50 seconds of screen time
>>211663214Agree. Knew this years ago. Without Ruse, whatever they produce professionally will be garbage. This episode made me laugh a few times and MDE was never purely about laughs. I don't like the recycling though. We get it Sam you are laughing while trying to stay serious.
The only time I laughed was when Erick was looking at the camera while Letty was monologuing. That skit was going well until Sam did his "I have to incorporate violence into this" bit, and then the rest of the skit felt like an eternity of unfunny clumsiness.
Nick constantly going in and out of character made little to no sense, and the second part of the 'dad' skit was just uncomfortable and not in a funny way.

just feels like they were trying to redo moms and the wall sketch with nfl and the dom one.
both of those sketches just relied on reactions from the hired people not actual wriitng, kinda blowed
Felt too much like they were trying to bring back the magic and it's not there. The Sam and Nick shock-jock stuff was a lot of fun back then, less charming from men pushing 40.
Then there's the context. Being that edgy in 2016 was cool. 2025 is different. Even if it was the same content it just wouldn't hit the same in 2025. Normies are seeing fascist anime pedophiles on the Twitter "for you" page now. It's a different world.
The sketches run on too long. World Peace was dense with comedy ideas. This feels like it's light on ideas and stretching them out. And every gag I've seen feels like something they've done before and done better. "What about torturing retarded actors, like we did in Moms? But way less funny?"
These guys were titans. Everyone who remembers wants to see that story end in triumph. But this is too little and much too late. And I think "comedy" is waning as a medium. Do we really need more comedy?
If this first episode is indicative of what's to come this will be the nail in the coffin for MDE.

My favorite was Warwick gardening, but it ended abruptly with a meta joke about the prop diareah tube they used. I feel like a lot of the material relies on them breaking the fourth wall and highlighting the absurdity of the production itself which feels like a cop out. I’d prefer seeing them execute written sketches with a beginning middle and end.

>>211665209>Dude got heckled out at the apollo,?
>>211664981Andrew Ruse's dynamic with MDE reminds me a lot of Mike Clattenburg and the Trailer Park Boys. You wouldn't think the director would guide the comedy as much as they would in another genre but when you leave the talent to their own devices they come up short.
Andrew is a legitimately talented filmmaker though (no shade intended at Clattenburg) and it's a shame he hasn't gotten a feature film to direct yet.
>>211664706Yea I've been watching them forever, watched moms on a realplayer share group back in the day. Sam Hyde stopped being funny like 10 years ago and it’s mostly because his followers are stuck in this insanely warped parasocial relationship with him. They’ll praise literally anything he puts out, no matter how lazy or dumb, which means he has zero reason to actually get better or try. Why bother improving when you can just sell the same old crap to a cult that won’t question you?
Recently he just tweeted something like “fuck indians” and somehow that got over a million views and 10k likes. It’s not edgy or clever it’s just straight-up lazy racebait that his fanbase eats up because they’re so invested in him. He’s basically figured out how to keep making the same tired content forever without pushing himself because the people watching have already drunk the Kool-Aid. That’s why he’s been irrelevant for so long, but his cult keeps giving him life.

>>211664893Nick is great in other people's sketches. Without the others he's still wicked funny but basically a normie, with not the best instincts. The union of Sam and Charls gives the show its unique direction, and creates the necessary precondition for Nick to be raised up as the funniest of the three. Easily the most grounded, self-aware, and least delusional of the three. But you also get the sense he lives in a very small world and is not many steps removed from being the sort of guy who believes things he saw on the TV.
Charls, left to his own devices, would end up making jokes to a twitter audience of 1000 people, maybe. Very funny in his way, consciously acting "the fool" in a painfully pretentious sort of way, maybe, but not badly. As one piece of a three-man act, lending it also some of his aesthetic sensibility, perfect.
Sam is the showman. He has that little bit of Reddit in him that gives him a killer instinct for what's going to hit big with audiences. "Going viral" is his bread and butter and he does it constantly. Unfortunately this is a little clouded now by his own vanity and maybe too much hormone supplementation/etc. Sam used to be more effeminate, more urbane, more Reddit. The new high-intensity Sam has obviously lost some of his sensibility for comedic effect, timing, things of this nature. Seems like he has less energy, maybe as a result of some fad diet, manifests as this state of irritable excitation. You hate to see it.
No emotional chewy center to any of these, directing is uncouth, sets looked good yet the premises remained unexplored, nose picking vibes

>>211666642>My point was he got a million views for something as simple and inane as "fuck Indians"He got a million views because of the way he roped Asmongold into it and the fact that he produced it on a very short timeline to respond to Elon Musk's slip-up before the discourse moved on. Sam Hyde is a content creator of the highest caliber. This was not a comedy special on which he had months to work. This was rapid-response instant content, and it worked.

It was alright, I hope it gets better as the season continues. A lot of people seem to be praising the graphic design segments but to me they seemed too polished and without enough substance. WP1 had more interesting aesthetics with lots of text that you could always go back and rewatch to see things that you missed.
Great graphics for the transitions and some of the sketches were kinda funny but a lot were way too long, could have been a good 22 minute episode. Basketball sketch sucked and Schultz is not a good director, especially when you compare with what Ruse did season 1. Also no Charls ? How did they get Rober Rodríguez to fund this
>>211667810The beginning and ending graphics felt a lot like "remember this? Remember when we were good?"
Only funny part was the old lady who doesn't know how to say MMA, the dweeb girl laughing about the n-word and eric grilling the methhead about walking the dog.
Also that forced nostalgia ending was embarrassing.
MDE's whole thing only worked in the SJW/Gamergate culture war era, now they're just angry ass oldtroon chuds with no swag
>>211667950I think they can be funny and make edgy/shocking stuff but it feels a little like they're pandering and imo if you're going to do something shocking you can't really shock an audience that expects that from you so it falls flat, especially when it's not funny

what the fuck man. the graphics, lighting, camera work, music and just general look of the show was phenomenal but the actual sketches were dogshit. daddy dom ended right as it was getting good. nfl one had no premise beyond being moms 2. garden one was bizarre and made no sense. the nigger one was not even remotely funny. the ending was corny as hell, but seeing hudson mohawke was neat. that was just weird and not very funny and i dont know why they made this episode 1. if this is the best they could come up with for the first episode, i have no hope for the rest of the season. ill wait for the konzept gfx cut in a year. also no charls whatsoever despite being on of the main four.

I'm very curious to see how the music performance comes out. Their cameraman (luke i think his name was) was doing all sorts of camera movement that they planned out. They had tons of extras pretending to be dancing in a highschool prom, and he had to choreograph the camera movements around them. Kinda hilarious to watch the juxtaposition of the high-effort camera, lights, balloons and choreography stuff right next to charls pretending to suck his own dick by using a hole in the stage and a set of fake legs.

I watched the preview on YT, laughed at Erick's intense stare during the dating show sketch and at the sudden cut to Nick at the end of the gardener sketch, but that was it.
The whole football sketch seemed to lean too much on 4th wall breaks through cuts to Sam trying to not laugh or Nick berating Craigslist actors. Worse version of the Moms sketch which is 10+ years ago, wasn't a fan.
Overall, I don't think the sketches I saw were better than anything from season 1. Definitely felt like they were missing some secret sauce, but maybe it appeals more to this newer generation of MDE fans.
>>211663958>rewatch or reanalyze the sketch to see the meta-humor inside of itThis is the beauty of the "You tripped my wife?!" sketch. It works on surface level but deeper it's about how people would rather believe an obvious lie than the hard truth. Same for the prison sketch, teacher sketch, bullying sketch, weightlifting sketch. They were comedy but also commentary on society which the NFL and Vicodin sketches were supposed to be but they were more concerned with the improv than the structure or point of the jokes.

watched it before reading any comments on it, going in blind I felt like the sketches were drawing too much from the original (moms, wall show, one people), this isn't a good thing as it takes away the surprise factor and punch the original had.
A bunch of the jokes I don't think land as they hoped.
Funniest part was the guy describing how he was gonna eat pussy and seeing charls reaction, Erick was also really funny.
The VFX animations saved it for me, would've made it better if there were walls of text and more hidden jokes.
I'll only make up a more solid opinion once I see episode 2 and 3, I really hope those are better. However as it stands, if lined up with the episodes from the original season this would be the weakest one.
Honestly preferred Happy World Daddy to this, they should cram more shit in, make us wonder what's coming up next, is it going to be a short 30 second funny clip? a standalone one and a half minute sketch that isn't interrupted by vex in the middle? that sort of thing.
Nonetheless, I think the saddest part is that none of the sketches will be relevant enough to be remembered and talked about in 10 years. I think that was the magic of the first one, short sketches that were heavily cut due to time limits and we were left to wonder the meaning of etc. These feel VERY forgettable, but I don't think anyone is currently to blame for it. Sam made funny stuff on his own during these past few years, a lot were misses but a lot was also comedy gold. Alex, although not my favorite comedian, also has very memorable work he made himself. I don't understand how this episode turned out so crappy, but I hope they crammed all the nostalgia bait on this one and move on in the 2nd one, maybe the old bit compilation symbolizes this.
If anyone from the team is reading this, no I couldn't do better, but I really hope this is a (knowingly) weak episode and that the next ones will surprise us.
