Whenever I see a movie criticism such as 'the film tries to make a political stance, but it is as shallow as a kiddie pool and doesn't go deep enough", it is often thinly veiled left-wing code for "I did not like the politics of this film". Since they don't want to seem as shallow as right wing retards screaming about brown people, they will say this to obfuscate their true feelings, while also sticking it to the movie's politics.

Ultimately, people just want morality plays that tell them that their side of politics is the right side.
