>Dazed and Confused was a 1976 period piece
>released in 1993, only 17 years after the fact
This would be like if a retro period piece movie was made today about 2008.

1993 and 1976 feel very culturally distinct but the same can't really be said of comparing any given year past 2008 in terms of aestheticism and technology.

Yes, but not really, because everyone who was not alive in 1976 is a straight up faggot.
100% serious.

This. 2000s were distinct:

>early internet culture in the first part of the decade
>emo/scene/hipsters
>smartphones and hookup culture in their infancy at the end of the decade

We've definitely been stagnant since around 2010 though.

I'm not talking about when everything went to shit (that was either 1913 at the earliest or 2001 at the latest) but the early 2000s did at least have somewhat of a distinct culture and feel compared to 2010-present, although I'll concede that they weren't as distinct as the eight decades that proceeded them.

I dont like these movies because they arnt actual stories. Drama needs tension, a plot, a need to find a solution to a pressing matter. This was some writers masturbatory expression of personal life experiences growing up, much like that other one Almost Famous. In fact when I first saw this on tc it was half way thru and the boy was getting "paddled" I h0onestyl thought Id stumbled onto a child rape scene. sentimental cringe/10

culture is not stagnant. the problem is when you think of culture you think of movies and music and clothes. but because culture actually did change, those things are irrelevant. culture is now a bunch of internet stuff.

well, america won the cold war, no reason to showcase cultural superiority in film, music and art (CIA funded shit art to surmize). If you still think 80s era height of pop culture wasn't adjacent to intelligent agencies, you are just being willfully dense. Thats to answer the true question of OP which is why there is no change in culture.
Compare watch a film from 1989, then think of a film 25 years older, 1964, and you can feel the difference in culture. Wouldnt even need to know the dates, just a few images, you'd know the decade. Now compare that to a film in 2025 and one in 2000. To be crass, the only difference is the amount of shitskins. Overall? There's nothing to discern the 2020s from the 2000s outside of an iPhone. So unless there's a fantastic coming of age tale unboxing an iPhone, period pieces are extinct

not culture, language, slang and memes are not cultural definors, they reflect. Ergo, all you are saying is the lack of culture reverberating is culture itself and you're wrong. We are being deliberated stagnated with things like corporate Memphis, mandatory minimums for awards etc. The way we are governed now is to not highlight anything about anyone

The difference is a lot changed from 76 to 93. It was a whole different vibe, music, fashion, everything. From 2008 forward everything stayed exactly the same but got more gay, niggerish, and retarded.

Since computers and the internet became a bigger deal fashion and music and hanging out really stopped changing and there stopped being different eras. Cars don't look dramatically different than they did 17 years ago except for a few lame Tesla designs. I don't know what people dressed like in '08. I was an adult then as I am now. When the century turned things stopped looking so different. Yet they will tell you about 'airplaine fruitopia' and all the different fonts of the world wide web. lol

this is confirmation bias. So 76-93 had MORE happen then 99 to 2016? Mallarky. AOL, 911, high speed internet, iPhone, first black president, congressional war declared.
Now lets look at what you said,
Iran hostage crisis, WTC bombing, the birth of the best posters online.
I still am adamant that there were clandestine operations to ensure the best talent was in front and behind cameras when it mattered. Now, MK ultra is memes and content creators. I could be wrong but id like a decent retort

i didn't say memes. I mean that people aren't listening to music, they're listening to podcasts. People aren't watching movies they watch streams. Clothes don't matter because people notice each other on apps not IRL.

so you think people discussing events is as cultural impactful as say someone creating an event. First I don't even think the two should be compared but since you did, no podcasts are not culture its a medium. The advent of the app or platform that launched the podcast may be cultural, but talking out your ass and uploading it, is not culture. If you think Joe Rogan has culture impact on the level in the 2000s as say KrisKross in the early 1990s, then we just differ on the entire discussion
