This isn't true though. This is your perception based on a narrow view of things. The truth is most people have simply lost their folklore, myths and legends to a rather centrist bland corporate view. Plenty of demonic stories in the middle ages were bizarre and diverse. You're falling into the trap of "thing Japan good, thing elsewhere bad" type thinking because you haven't bothered to read anything.
