>half the budget of Superman
>visuals look way better

How does Edwards do it?

Edwards whole thing is visuals. He's always been someone that excels at integrating VFX with in-camera stuff

Gunn by contrast is more about a tight screenplay with banter between a found family

i've never watched any of the nu jurassic park movies and never will.
They look just as trash as nu-wars. All these reboot franchises can eat my ass. Soulless slop for zoomers and younger kids

Edwards knows how to make things look good on a smaller budget due to extensive pre-planning and giving the effects guys enough time to competently do their jobs. Marvel (and DC) have the problem of shooting everything on green screens and then reshooting things up until release, forcing effects artists to work overtime to churn out a finished product that often looks bad and causes budgets to balloon. There is no reason why Superman should have a $360+ million budget.

I get that. Trevorrow is indeed a hack director but at least Edwards is better and this has the writer of the original two JP films. First reactions point to it being better than the other JW films and largely standalone. We shall see I guess

Wikipedia says Supermans budget is 220, where are you getting 360 from?

>Last year, documents filed by the Superman production team with the Ohio government seeking incentives listed the gross budget of the highly anticipated July film as $363.8 million. When that number was reported, director James Gunn β€” who also runs DC Studios β€” lambasted the article. β€œHow in the world do they think they know what our budget is?” he wrote on social media. In recent days, DC suggested the budget is a net $225 million after incentives and tax breaks.

>Yet one longtime financier says the $363 million figure isn’t incorrect. And sources say DC and its parent could spend as much as $200 million on the global marketing campaign, compared with the usual $150 million for an all-audience summer tentpole.

What the hell is going on with Gunn? The movie looks like crap. Where did the money go?

Its insane that they think this movie could do well enough to justify that budget or marketing. Superman has historically had mid to low box office results and now its sandwiched between Jurassic World and Fantastic Four cutting into its box office. Fantastic Four doesn't look much better and FF also historically underperforms but people seem a tad more interested in it than the last few Marvel movies.

It looks like Jurassic Park will win the July fight against the Fantastic Four and Superman. That's why Universal hired a decent director.
I'm somewhat interested in seeing Scarlett Johansson in the film, I won't deny it. I want to know if she's more than just a fan service character.

You mean characters repeating each other sentences or screaming at each other.

>Where did the money go?
The movie has like 50 characters, basically all scenes have CGI and I bet lots of "fix it in post". Plus the story jumps all over the place, so it's not an economic movie. More like Warner going all in.

There's no way they can kick off a DCU with such a weak Superman movie. They'd have to start small with Batman, Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, but Warner doesn't want small or slow. They want Endgame NOW.

Probably could have saved on some money by just giving us a Superman film instead of cramming in multiple other heroes that eat up the effects and casting budget.

Gunn has already said that next movie wouldn't even be a standalone Superman movie but instead World's Finest - they literally are trying the same shit they did with Batman v Superman and trying to jumpstart a shared universe from the get go
