God I hope they get Woody for TAFS. The Fantano episode was insufferable.

>>211718348Awful episode, the only one i didn't like so far, Adam sucked on it, wouldn't stop yelling over the bald fag and in the most annoying ways. Whatever he was trying this episode did not work. Bad guest too, Fantano is extremely uninteresting. I hope they get Woody, i've even left a comment saying they could probably get him if they really tried.

Any films with this feel?
Last thread straight up died. Its so over.
Are the 70s the worst era of cinema? After watching The French Connection, I think so. It was a really nasty and brutal time, so many films seemed to have been made exclusively as wish fulfillment for sick men who couldnโt do what they wanted during the Hayes code. So much of that era, especially in the thriller genre seem to love that proto-incel. Men angry at the world who want to see it burn because of their own social defects. Movies like Taxi Driver and The French Connection are in a nutshell whatโs wrong with that group of men. So many revered films of the time are extremely boring and pretentious. Chinatown, The Exorcist, Mean Streets, Sorcerer, The Conversationโฆ I can go on and on. They all celebrate and revel in depravity. When somebody tells me their favorite film is Taxi Driver, or really most of the early โnew Hollywood movementโ, Iโm genuinely put off.

You thought it was decent, but overrated. You can see the beautiful shots and scenery but find it hard to relate to the characters emotionally. Overall, you give it a 7/10 all things considered... decent, but not life changing at all. You will now see a Tarkovsky movie to follow your arthouse travels, maybe Stalker.
>>211766467Harry Dean was 58, Nastassja was 23.
>>211766467You thought it was kino unless you have no soul
Speaking of, how would you rank those 3?
>>211767203Fairly close. I thought it was very good but still slightly overrated. I don't think they fully demonstrated the shifts in Travis' mental state, which made the latter part of the movie something of a small bait-and-switch. I also think the soundtrack was too heavy-handed with the acoustic guitar. It worked well at the start but grew labored.
>hard to relate to the characters emotionallyOnly Walt. They probably could have better insinuated his emotional dynamics without expending too much extra time. In any case it'll take a second viewing to conclude a proper broad opinion of the film.
>You will now see a Tarkovsky movie to follow your arthouse travels, maybe Stalker.Afraid not. The itinerary is The Snows of Kilimanjaro -> Fallen Angels -> maybe a Shanghai Noon rewatch.

>>211772254anons please affirm this. am I losing my mind or is this a lowkey masterpiece?
>>211772592>because liking a WKW film is something I wanted to do,Don't you watch every film wanting to like it? I don't understand what is it with Kar-Wai specifically for you.
>>211772618I have never even seen it, but I liked all of the movies from the original Matrix trilogy, so I expect the Wachowskis material to be underrated.
>>211772754No, not really, some films are actually shit and I know they're gonna be shit before I even start them, like Vase de noces, so with those films everything is a win: if I like them, I found an underrated gem; if I hate them, I already experienced them (I value experiences and knowledge). But with WKW or Tarkovsky is different, because everyone seemingly likes them and I want to understand why they like them, but can't. It also makes me sad to not be able to share my obscure taste with the normies while they can relate to liking WKW.
>>211772890>because everyone seemingly likes themNot everyone, not at all.

If you're a manlet at least have the decency to have a sense of humour. Same rule as for fat women. Polanski and Scorsese knew this.

>>211783245After Hours wasn't so bad. Regardless KoC and TWoWS are genuinely funny. I haven't seen that much of Polanski but there is dark humour running through a lot of his work. I'll add Kubrick to the list too for Dr Strangelove.
>>211739075>>211759177You really don't NEED to see any of the Ozus in color. He's said everything he's had to say by that point, most things multiple times, and everything afterwards is just bonsai pruning.

>>211783245>Polanski was uttely humorless. You have not seen any of his films if you believe this.
>>211776447Life, and Nothing More...
>>211790265Seen enough. His "humor" is insidious glee of a boy slowly pulling a frog apart, Cul-de-sac is the best example of this. But this general can't read people, much less tell a sociopath or a narcissist from an artistic work.
Only Polanski films which had attempts at humor were Fearless Vampire Killers and Venus in Furs. Both films sucked and were unfunny.
We're all sucked and unfunny here.
