I still love 28 Days Later but it's only half of a good movie. Once the survivors meet the soldiers, it goes from absolute kino of the highest order to ok this is dumb. Even the producers confirmed how they got up to that part and didn't know where to go next. Weeks Later is pretty basic and barebones. Nothing special. The intro should have shown Cambridge, where the outbreak initially happened. If it occurs in Scotland, the family would have had weeks to prepare. Show the family getting ripped apart, one by one. Do a similar opening to 28 Weeks Later, but with kids instead.

Act One can stay the same.

Act Two I'm fine with, but instead of 8 Swedes, make it 3 (or 4 but one's critically injured). Have their landing shown. They slaughter ample infected and show no signs of trouble. They meet the mother and Spike and escort them... but then the Alpha rips them to pieces The baby is a terrible idea - do away with it.

Doctor can't save the mother. Keep it as is. Mother dies. Pajeet Alpha killed by Spike. Spike feels there's nothing more for him back home, so he goes further inland.

I felt like I was watching the editing of Snatch or LSATSB at times. It was an odd but ultimately worthwhile film. Didn't love it, but I liked it well enough.
There were themes of reversion to earlier forms of human society and how that connects us to our animalistic origins that I thought was interesting. The interspersing of technicolor British movie footage of feudal archers alongside scenes of the village having to defend itself. Or the babbling brook scene with the infected trying to catch fish/fuck with rocks while a pregnant one waddle-screams by. Interesting, although they rap you over the head a bit with it.
I could see how someone from /pol/ might be able to interpret this movie as a psyop for uncivilized culture in the form of immigration, also. Not saying this was necessarily tyhe intent..but wiuth Alex Garland idk anymore.

That could have been a good plot point but this film is littered with interesting tidbits like the mask in the village or the man left hanging in the abandoned house that go nowhere. 28 DAYS, yes, but even then its "arthouse" roots are still somewhat up for debate because Garland was inspired after playing the original Resident Evil. 28 YEARS on the other hand is the complete opposite, it costed $60 million to make and that's not even getting into it's large scale marketing campaign across Europe with plenty of merchandise. Its clearly aiming for the mass market, in fact it needs to do so if Garland and Boyle even hope to complete the "trilogy".
People aren't upset just because it's "different", they're disappointed because the trailer set up widely different expectations and because the final product just falls apart in the second half with ideas that just don't really work. Not only that, but it's not a standalone narrative prioritizing artistic merit or even a well told story, they're trying to upsell you on a series of films.

I think the Doctor likes studying the infected(non-lethal morphine, covered in iodine so they'll ignore him) and didn't want to disrupt the local power dynamic. Maybe the Alphas are a positive influence on the infected since outside of that Alpha who lost his pack we don't see the infected suiciding into fortifications like in 28 Days. Given he puts both infected and non-infected skulls in the Boner Temple maybe he feels some sympathy towards them.
