I think what you're not picking up on there (lucky for you) is that the reason that the boy has thick legs etc is because he's drawn by fetish artists with a somewhat illegal fetish so it's not true to say unappealing in general. unappealing to you, pointedly appealing to them

It was okay, Glordon is best boy and there were some little hints at horror that'll get the kids a bit disturbed.
I got a bit teary-eyed when the radio operators from all around the globe were helping them avoid the space debris.

I guess a camrip will be ready in the next hours/days for those who don't wanna see it in theaters but want to be up to date on the shitposting potential.

I didn't either and I went in completely blind, wasn't disappointed.
I knew it was coming out because some movie critics podcast I follow talked about the troubled production and how Disney is almost shadow-dropping it, fucking Pixar out of their original movies, and favoring endless sequels.

There are two white males in the entire movie. One is an autistic sperg nerd ham radio NASA nut played for laughs. The other is a blonde bully who forces a poor, black flunkie to bully Elio and gets no redemption. Every single soldier or NASA employee is black, brown, or some other mutt. I think I saw one Chinese chick.

The Movie could have easily been boiled down to less than an hour on Disney+, but where's the money in that? Elemental was actually a better movie all around, and that movie still was not even close to an upper-eschelon Disney flick.

so the gay awakening really got cut or... was it still there as subtext, or is the movie at face value just non-gay at all and it's up to the pedos to do the undressing of him in their head or what? I mean we're talking about the most overtly gayest character design in an animated film ever, and you're like "tha mofie goes from A to B" as if that's not even there

But Elio the character has zero gay subtext that picked up on, he's just an 11 year old kid that feels isolated until he gets abducted and the movie actually starts about 30 minutes in.

Here's What Happened:
Pixarโ€™s Old Style (Toy Story โ€“ Coco era):
Highly detailed, semi-realistic animation

Naturalistic proportions, textures, lighting

Serious emotional tones

New Direction (Luca onward):
Simpler shapes, rubbery motion, bigger eyes and mouths

More expressive squash-and-stretch

Inspired by 2D animation, stop-motion, and international styles like Ghibli or Laika, not Grubhub

Part of a deliberate shift toward playfulness and cultural specificity

So Why Does It Feel Similar to Grubhub?
Because both styles share:

Rubbery limbs and bodies

Giant heads and mouths

Simplified, stylized environments

Over-the-top expressiveness

Thanks ChatGPT, its also telling me that the true inspiration for this art comes from a studio named Laika in Portland Oregon who did Coraline. Plus Gen Z sensibilities morphed it.

What I didn't notice was that people never really talked about the rest of the movie and literally all the praise came from the first 10 mins; so when I finally watched it and got to the part of the talking dogs, I was incredibly baffled wondering what was going on anymore and why people loved it so much.

There were such significant changes that they changed directors halfway through. The first one was the guy who actually came up with the whole premise to essentially be an allegory to his own life. That also meant that he probably wanted to make it gay and have all gay subtext and/or a coming out metaphor. He got moved off this movie to focus on Coco 2, and then the new team came in and probably cleaned house and took all the blatant gay stuff the first guy wanted and nixed it.

also wasn't the point of The Incredibles that it's vaguely 50s themed? I thought it was supposed to be an homage to that era of superheroes. The new characters they designed don't match that at all. It seems like they didn't recognize that and instead used the main family as their only visual basis for what is and isn't "super hero looking".
As a result all the characters just look like kinda weird drafted prototype versions of the main family. I feel like if a hero wouldn't reasonably sell copies of their comic in a standalone story, then you fucked up designing a superhero. No little girl wants to be any one of those ugly bitches

God it was so mediocre at best
People liked the original because it worked very well as a family movie and everyone had a character they could emphatize with, even with the villain. The family dynamic was so well done, but then they took the sequel and just made it about capeshit tier heroes and superpowers

>>I think too many people like the saddest 10 minutes of cinema made in the English language

I mean.... it's sad and very well done...but 'saddest' in all of cinema? Like from the turn of the 20th century to now, there hasn't been a sadder moment? Really? A bit of an exaggeration to say the least.

Also I agree with that other poster that "Up" is a brilliant 10 minute short film followed by good-but-forgettable 70-80 minutes. Seriously, the beginning is literally the only thing people talk about with "Up" outside of *maybe* the "Squirrel!" joke.

Then again, I know I'm in the minority. I've always felt Pixar to be VASTLY overrated due to western animation being so garbage for years. Pixar made animated films that were above average/not for toddlers seems magnificent, therefore people overhyped them and proclaimed the meme that "they don't make CARTOONS, they make ANIMATED FILMS." Sprinkle in some Oscar-baiting moments for emotional manipulation (the opening of up, the furnace scene in Toy Story 3, etc.) and you have a studio that gets much more praise than they deserve.

They definitely had some good-to-great movies (for instance, "The Incredibles" is great) - but people acting like ALL their old movies were 10/10 masterpieces are blinded by nostalgia and/or are massive Disney fags.

The old premise was "lonely sad young boy accidentally gets mistaken for the leader of earth and keeps up the lie because he feels supported for the first time in his life".
The new premise is "young quirky boy purposely gets himself abducted by aliens and goes on a whacky space adventure where he learns the true meaning of friendship"

They keep pushing this angle that the aliens think he's the leader of Earth. Kids won't even pick up on it, cause it'll be conveyed in a few lines of dialogue and not visually in any way. The hook is just "boy encounters aliens" like we've seen a hundred times, no matter how desperately they push this minor detail and try to convince everyone it's like a crazy new twist that makes this story unique

Wallโ€ขE was not only entertaining and actually funny but deeply thoughtful. As an adult I can go back and see something I couldnโ€™t as a kid. Elio has none of that. Absolutely no nuance. It is a retarded story made by retarded writers for a retarded audience. Animation was fine but nothing groundbreaking. 4/10.

I'm actually a woman, thank you very much, so don't bring my feminine penis size up. It's probably bigger than yours, chud, which is why I'm getting reduction surgery this year. I'm gonna get it shortened just enough to enhance its femininity, but will make sure that it's still longer than yours, you tic-tac.

I have friends who went to an early screening event and they said people gradually left as the movie progressed because it was so boring, tries to emotionally gripping but fails, eventually they walked out too.
Disney and Pixar need to stop giving minority writers and directors work because they bog down their movies with social bullshit to the point where even normies get tired of it.

Most of the artists in the industry now either went to Calarts, went to schools where Calarts alums or former staff teach there, or have their style shaped or inspired by Calarts by being influenced via working on project/friends in the industry, etc.
There is always an era where the DNA of cartoons and animation are influenced. There was a time every tried to copy Bluth or Keane.

You can see that right in this poster. They're doing an equal three-way-symmetrical gesture of friendship, the hands, but the one boy also puts his arm around the other. If you saw a photo of real people like this you would understand ah, the men are a couple and this is their hag. This is typical of the 20th century times where a person couldn't come out with it, but some later documentary about some 'bachelor' composer or artist or something will show a pic like this and everyone can 'get' it
