yeah, almost three decades ago...Imo the real problem is that the only people who remember it are way out of the target demographic now, it wouldn't make sense to dump money into unless it somehow resurged in mainstream culture.

Honestly it gets dark almost right away, kids books I read in the 90s always had potential for fucked up content. But then again this was before the internet went truly mainstream.
I think the hardest part of an Animorphs adaptation today would be that the books don't easily slot into any target audience that exists today. You'd have to seriously rewrite dialogue and relationships to aim it adults and current kid culture doesn't usually veer this dark.
I wish it had gotten done instead of the live action back then.
