Christian Bale is a psycho who sees petty things like the quality of your business card as a competition for social status. When someone shows up with a better card than his he gets upset because someone is subverting his status. But he has to play it off so people don't see how much this bothers him.

It's not Bryce's or Van Patten's since those have ugly textures.
And it's not Bateman's since it has a dirty coloring plus weird borders on the letters.
In the end, the scene portrayed reality very accurately - Paul Allen's card is clearly the best.

The raised ink thing on the cards is just another metaphor for status obsession. Its kind of hammering the point home by Patrick having an envy breakdown over something so superficial as having the newest card with raised ink typing vs. the old flat ink cards. The thing is I've met a ton of people like this in corporate America. Tons of people obsessed with the most inane bullshit trying to one up each other for no reason.
