They don't eat or drink, most of the infected who even made it to week 5 would have been infected semi recently.
In 28 Weeks the infected are long dead, its just a matter of disposing of all bodies, rescuing the survivors and recolonizing. The infection only restarts because of some extremely rare genetic mutation that makes some bitch a carrier who then passes it to her husband after some terrible plot holes.
This movie has them as nomadic roaming barbarians, breeding and hunting. Totally different story.
