What happened to all the comfy sitcoms like The Office, Scrubs, 30 Rock, Parks and Rec, Community.

Where'd they all go?

Rashida was always the superior choice, but when you factor in her mother's amazing genes and her father's billions of dollars it's a no-brainer. She would just need a few beatings to get the feminism out of her and it would be golden having her as a wife.

You need a monoculture to make comedy and that doesn't exist any more. I watched Norsemen and it shocked me how many of the jokes were simply centered around them BEING Norwegian and acting Norwegian. Americans do not have that.

>30 Rock

That show is Cheers/Frasier tier rewatchable and funny. An absolute gem and it blows shows like Office and Parks, both of which I enjoyed as they aired, out of the water on rewatch. Multiple viewings of 30 Rock and you will still find new things you missed that make you laugh, and it's also good to play in the background while you do other things. That's rare.

30 Rock really is one of the best. I've been quoting it for years. Also as an insane woman enjoyer, Jenna is great.
The Office and Parks both always felt to me like if you took a regular sitcom and muted the studio audience. Characters saying or doing things kind of odd and then everyone sits in silence for a few seconds staring at them.

Abbott Elementary is just bizarre. At times, it almost feels like it should be watchable, but there's just something so incredibly off about it. The way it actually falls short of ever being funny or getting any bit of outrageous with its concept.

Maybe it's because they're so committed to seemingly dipping their toes into the risque and illicit that you see in a lot of other shows of this format, but gladly choke-chains itself and stops right as things are about to build up, in order to have an otherwise very safe show. Like even something as addicted to being positive and quirky as later-seasons Parks and Rec still had more teeth than this shit.

I guess the IASIP episode really highlighted the weirdest bits, since the writers were so afraid of having The Gang actually act like themselves, and Quinta Brunson joked in interviews about how the kind of person that watches Abbott shouldn't watch IASIP, but at the same time, they wanted to show the cast of Abbott being both better people but also more hardcore than The Gang. Makes it all extra empty and fake

because the positivity was contrasted with how malicious Pawnee and some of the people in it were. Like Leslie getting her wedding ruined by Jamm or the city straight up recalling her and she ends up having a breakdown. They were willing to punish their characters

Yeah yeah. That's what I'm referring to when I say that "it still had more teeth than this," because even a show like that would still allow the negative streaks that remained in it actually be as such. In Abbott, it's just all so hollow, especially since they want to push characters as being incredibly eccentric or having ties to the mob, and get into some out-there and illicit shit on the side, but never want anything actually negative to happen in the show even when leaving the school's campus.

Tracy talking about the Black Crusaders and how they meet in the Statue of Liberty's skull four times a year to decide which black famous person to take out and then having a bunch of the jokes actually be real stuff they knew because they were in the famous people circles is still one of the most ballsiest things ever aired on network TV. They made it just silly enough to not end in a gorillion dollar lawsuit or have NBC try to neuter their golden award winning goose, ratings notwithstanding. It feels good that the show got to run as long as it did even though the ratings weren't the best because they won so many awards and now it's super popular with people watching it for the first time. Last I knew it was second to only The Office on the scale of most watched sitcoms in the world on streaming.

Mainly it's "woke", you can't have a relaxing comedy TV show when all the writers are neurotic communists or walking on eggshells

You can see it now with 30 Rock episodes being taken off streaming by NBC Universal due to absolute retarded reasons. Don't forget to download the full unedited seasons including both versions of the live episodes and watch them on your own private server or app like PLEX/Jellyfin and don't give Universal or any of the other companies that are trying to censor their old shows a cent folks.

This is what I'm talking about. Netflix could easily produce cheap content like sitcoms and pound out the episodes, drawing in huge subscribers and keeping them subscribed. Instead they make one season of a show that costs $200 million and then takes four years to make season two

>Schitts Creek was alright.
I've tried to get into it because the concept sounds just up my alley. I liked Bless This Mess, for instance, and wish it had gotten more seasons. But with Schitt's Creek I just feel like they go full retard too often. And by that I mean the characters just aren't believably stupid, they're TOO stupid or socially inept. Does it get better beyond season 1?

I have the same problem with Wellington Paranormal. With What We Do In The Shadows it makes sense that the characters are idiots because the idiocy comes from them being vampires who have refused to move with the times. But in WP we're just following regular people who are so incredibly retarded that not even the police would hire them. They've gone full retard.

Netflix can't make a show that goes on for more than three seasons because after three seasons the actors get to redo their contracts and if it's a successful sitcom they'd want too much money for all the hours spent shooting episodes. No one is getting invested in a sitcom that only lasts two or three seasons at most.

I can think of three reasons off the top of my head
1.) internet humor has taken over. Young people get their laughs from TikTok and Twitter. Older audiences rewatch old sitcoms on repeat.
2.) Woke culture may be dying, but networks are still afraid of making fun of someone in a protected group, which is now over 90% of the population.
3.) Shows are now made for a global audience and comedy is dependent on the norms of the country it was made in. What may be a funny faux-pas in one culture, is totally normal is another

The saddest part is we'll never get anything with the soul of X-Files simply because they'd never "waste time" by shooting outside like that again. So many times they're out somewhere and there's a drizzle or you can see rain clouds on the horizon but that's not part of the episode itself, it's just the natural state of things. Sometimes you're going to stand around and be wet and a little cold without it being a huge plot point. These days you only get rain if the episode calls for rain and most of the time they CGI it because they're shooting on a set instead of outside. If there's a storm cloud on the horizon then the episode is going to revolve around a big storm causing problems. It makes everything look and feel too sterile when the sky is always perfect and there's never a windy or drizzly day.

1)move away from straight comedies to more dramedy/action comedy. While those have always existed within sitcoms they were never the main focus of the sitcoms
2)move to streaming has hurt in a couple of ways. Shorter seasons and binging. All the shows you listed are 20+ episodes a season (itโ€™s considered a shortened season of less than 20). Thatโ€™s half a year of watching an episode every week. Now you are lucky to get a 12 episode season that most people knock out in two weeks if they are busy. Even good comedies donโ€™t have the staying power.
3)any broadcast comedies now are made for lowest common denominator. So little chance at a quality show making it to CBS/NBC/ABC/FOX

nah, Schitt's Creek never really gets better. But it's also not like offensively bad. It's a quintessential example of "heartwarming 'comedy'" where it's not really laugh-out-loud funny. The characters are put in mildly amusing situations, but nothing is truly hilarious, and everything generally works out positively by the end. I wouldn't recommend it but I also wouldn't recommend against it. It's just... there. The only truly bad thing about it was the forced fag shit with the son and the store owner in the later seasons
