I remember a clip of Sam saying something like "it's so good: if you don't like it, you are undeniably stupid" several months ago. It's fascinating he has such a distorted view of his own output. Episode one was nothing more than a lukewarm rehash of their old ideas, with a bit of incoherent comedy sawdust to bulk out the running time. I feel bad for Nick and Charls, who I like, but they're both victims of Sam's need to surround himself with retarded, sycophantic yes-men. It's a familiar trajectory for artists who develop a reputation for pushing the needle - they lose their edge, then basically end up plagiarising themselves. There's an interview (only has like 66 views on yt) at the premiere of WP2/extreme peace where Sam asks the interviewer what he thought while prodding at the interviewer to admit he's lying...he said stuff like "did you like it?" "Do you really think that? Are you lying?"...which strikes me as Sam sort of deep down knowing that people are just blowing smoke up his ass, most people at the premiere he interviewed just said "yeah, it was good" "it was pretty funny" with nothing to add, no favourite moments, no looks of joy as they remember bits they loved when being reminded of what they though of it, just "yeah, it's really good" said in the tone of "eh, it aiight"

The truth is Sam is out of touch. You have to understand that men create their best art in the tougher parts of their life and as of late Sam has been basking in a lot of popularity and money (which is fine, I'm not hating on him for that). MDE on adult swim was a product of all of the hype and hard work him and the others did years before (not to mention a bigger budget with a mainstream corporate conglomerate). Additionally since MDE on adult swim came out, comedy has evolved and social media has gotten so much bigger, making a lot of his content less niche and therefore less appealing amongst autists.

I really wanted it to be good. Honestly the graphic design and animation stuff is undeniably good, but the actual sketches don’t hit at all. It’s clear their comedy relies on improv and editing. Ruse made it work with S1, but the new crew is leaning too much into the meta fourth wall breaking humor where it cuts to production smiling as an extra says something mildly weird. It’s like they didn’t write complete sketches or jokes and wanted the concept of shooting a sketch comedy show to be the joke itself.
