I'm not sure Dinklage can do whimsy very well, least I can't imagine his Flitwick would be enjoyable. Maybe i'm too limited in imagination.

He wasn't the game of thrones guy yet, but he's been acting for a long time.
First time I can remember seeing him is in a movie where he yells at steve buscemi who is filming a dream sequence for a movie and he's laying into him about why there are always fucking dwarves in dream sequences when he's a fucking dwarf and even he doesn't have dwarves in his dreams.
He was the nanny to baby crab-hand in nip/tuck and cucked Sean Mcnamara.
Pretty sure he was in Tiptoes, the movie where gary oldman plays a little person (go watch the trailer now if you've never heard of it).

Its kind of funny, when Alan Rickman died they found his journal and published it and it was posted piecemeal all over the internet in clickbait headlines.
The one that made me laugh was him seething during harry potter productions where he complains about some of the greatest living british actors being gathered together to stand in the background while a bunch of stupid kids who can't act mug for the camera.
