Hereditary was his one hit wonder. Aster's overrated reputation is mostly a product of good timing. Hereditary hit when A24 was gaining popularity around the same time as Letterboxd and Midsommar appealed to the target Letterboxd demographic (bitter women and gays). That's why people think Beau is Afraid was just a misstep and not the continued decline in the quality of his movies. Eddington looks like shit though, so that will hopefully get more people to recognize that he hasn't made anything good since Hereditary.
