I didn't laugh once throughout all of episode 1. Not even gonna watch episode 2. I'll watch the clips on youtube but I'm not sitting through it again. It's just too boring. I think I’m understanding why this took so long to come out now. For all of Sam’s bloviation about getting the right “look”, it’s clear that wasn’t why.

It reminds me of those old clips of George Lucas watching test screenings of Episode 1 and going on about how “it’s stylistically designed to be that way, we can’t do anything about that but we can diminish the effects” and how it’s “bold” which is basically another way of saying, yo this shit kind of sucks ass and there’s nothing we can do at this point to fix it, so let’s just hope for a miracle in editing.

There’s no way this could have taken two years of editing. Not a chance. A highly motivated high schooler could have edited and produced the final cut in six months max. The only possibility is Sam was probably shitting bricks about releasing a show he knew was dogshit and wanted to hold off hitting the iceberg for as long as possible before his reputation took the hit.

Sam’s never really been on the back foot of widespread backlash from his base. Despite all his posturing, he’s a sensitive guy and the thing he probably fears the most is getting teased for his work. Not genuine vitriol - that rolls off him like water - but people teasing him and writing him off as a hack freaks him out. I doubt WP2 will be a mortal blow, but one or two more of the same quality and he’ll start becoming the butt of the joke.

Other ecelebs have fallen off for less and basically lost their momentum overnight. He knows this.

This was kind of all foreshadowed a couple months ago when he was talking about people complaining about John Maus falling off and basically saying that not every piece of art an artist makes is gonna be good, and you should just shut the fuck up about it.
