I don’t think he’s overrated. He’s pretty fairly rated. He had a unique “voice” that would be hard to copy without it being obvious you’re doing Norm Macdonald. Same way Dave Attell has tons of people doing him and Patrice has a bunch of people doing him. And that’s just two examples. Good comedians are the ones who cultivate a “voice” that’s unique and successful/funny. He’s not the best there was or ever will be, but he was good.

I unironically know him thanks to 4chan ut way before he died, like many years ago. I think lots pf people posted weekend update and NML webms in YLYL threads in /wsg/. Specially the "women vs men car crashes" bit and I guess "9/11, 420" ones too. From then I went to YouTube stuff and just fell in move with his style.
