>>211820572Yes, that was their reason for not leaving the cabin. The final girl "had to ride her cold turkey out". I did watch the whole thing, but only because I had nothing else. Btw. the (Argentinian?) writer and director couldn't even write a script as simple as this without plotholes. The idiot who read the book out loud, the book that said "DO NOT READ OUT LOUD!" in 1 inch red letters, also quoted the book that the curse is over once the first victim is "cleansed". They did that, and even after that the other dead victims came back to life because the film needed another 20 minutes to happen.
Fuck off, film.

It's not as if there will be instructions on banishing ancient sumerian demons on the back of a cereal box or some shit. May as well go with the book.
I thought Evil Dead remake had great atmosphere and visuals. New one didnt come close.
>>211820803I liked it mainly for what I remember - the over the top bloody ending.
>>211820733I wouldn't have brought up the witchcraft shit from the cellar in the first place. That gun, that later conveniently injures and kills. Great job putting it into the hands of the possessed.
>>211820773No, I like horror, but it has to be atmospheric horror. Everybody can buy 1000 litres of artificial blood, scribble together a script in a day and then get behind a camera and yell "action!". But only a few manage to actually conjure up a creepy atmosphere for a perfect late night movie.

I had an horror dream inspired by resident evil 2.
Movies are scary, but dreams are scarier.
>>211820891I read that, but watching that movie I couldn't figure out where they wasted that incredible amount of fake blood.
>>211820929I hope the new RE film can capture that feeling. It's supposedly a back to basics get from A->B kind of film.
>>211820958There's like 10 minutes of raining blood at the end, I'm guessing that just takes a shitload of water. Like pumping it into a massive sprinkler for a week.
I think The Collector is another one that used legendary amounts of blood in it for the club-harvester scene.
>>211820929I haven't had a scary dream in a long time. I almost never remember my dreams anymore.
>>211820990Well, at least fake blood is finally realistic. Go and watch old 1960s Hammer movies for bad examples. It looks like they either used "signal red" paint, or milk dyed with signal red paint.
>>211821061I used to hate that pink/red blood so much I avoided the era. It's the uncanny valley of blood. I'm used to it now though but am behind on the decade.
>>211815550 (OP)Why didn't this barren bitch have any kids?
>>211821061My favourite is these old japanese samurai movies where it's literally just red paint in water but the trickling noises are always so completely overdone. It sounds like six back yard's worth of water features but there's like one little line of blood going down a guy's collarbone.
Absolute kino
>>211821135> Why didn't this barren bitch have any kids?
>>211821120>I avoided the eraOn the plus side, those Hammer films used known actors and good screen writers and directors. You got original stories, while on the other side of the pond Roger Corman was still filming the 20th movie adapted from yet another short story by Edgar Allen Poe.

>>211821231Did you see the one with the insta-monster(TM)? >>211823857>>211823910Both versions fuck up the adaptation in different ways. IT Chapter 1 does the best job at it, 2 shows how unfilmable the weird stuff in the book is.
If you have a lot of time on your hands I would recommend the audiobook version narrated by Steven Weber. The book is genuinely great, but doesn't translate to a visual medium well. Book version will go on a whole chapter just on 1 character and something weird that happened to them. It works WAY better with the collection of high strangeness events just happening or being recalled (book goes back and forth between the kids and adult versions telling 2 simultaneous linear narratives)
>>211823979>2 shows how unfilmable the weird stuff in the book isthat's putting it mildly
>>211823910God, the clown spider was so lame and disappointing. I really wanted to see some freak-ass cosmic horror spider monster, at least that would have been interesting.
>>211824054The miniseries had plenty of stuff like that. Like the stuff with Henry Bowers in the miniseries is way dumber than the movies. Like they do the most boring description of something happening a lot of the time like the Pennywise is the moon thing.
>>211824162He's actually just a giant spider in the book because that's the only physical form they can comprehend. I think it's weird to make some complicated design for something you have a cosmic mind battle with.

I swear the entire giallo genre mogs 90% of American slasher movies.

>>211833575The slasher genre only overlaps with about 10% of the giallo genre. There are certainly some like Torso but I would rate that similar to the best slashers.
American giallos I think are pretty similar in quality. Dressed to Kill, Eyes of Laura Mars, Alice Sweet Alice I would say can stand shoulder to shoulder with any Italian "proper" giallo.
>>211833575My theory: surrealist antinazi art took comfort in detective fiction, so a faceless gloved killer with its own sexual perversion and secrets has a special kinship with aesthetic and feeling over what you can produce if you haven't seen fascism during your Agatha Christie phase
There's a lot of surrealist elements in early ones (like Death Laid an Egg filing chickens) and some early ones are essentially near commie propaganda (They Have Changed Their Face) with things like anti industrialist or corporate espionage just as prone to show up as anti eugenics plotlines. The slashers move to the fore, but a lot of giallo being stylish nonsense I think comes straight from surrealists adopting detective fiction and other things considered degenerate trash by authorities
>>211834169Night School and Curtains are two other excellent American giallos too.
Besides, you also have to consider that some famous slashers can also be read as giallo. The OG Friday the 13th and Scream are both very giallo-esque.

>>211834508Private Parts 1972
>>211834597I guess Puppet Master and most of the sequels technically take place in a hotel.
I assume it's quite expensive to film in one unless it's just window of opportunity like how Session 9 filmed at Danvers State Hospital right before they tore most of it down.
>>211834364Giallo is definitely more aesthetically pleasing. visually it is a cut above. and the way people talk act and dress in the movie. its very comfy. American giallos are not as visually pleasing
>>211834508The one with Josh Stewart wasnt bad. He is an underrated scream king.
Bidenfags vote against their own economic interests
>>211834759Yeah, Josh Stewart is definitely a scream king.
Would you consider this giallo adjacent?
It has quite a nice atmosphere, though I don't think being atmospheric means it's giallo inspired. It definitely has some of the DNA though it could be second generation inspiration.
MBV and Tourist Trap I think are both generally underrated, though MBV definitely has gotten an increased amount of love and praise over time.
>>211834714It helps they're all wearing Italian designers, so you get movies where everyone is dressed by Versace or all the jewellery is Bulgari
>>211834714True. Itโs like a more sleazy and surrealist take on an Agatha Christie type mystery. Also, the soundtracks are gorgeous. The songs are either absolute bangers or beautifully romantic and melancholic pieces.
Itโs like a more sophisticated and intellectually stimulating slasher, even though theyโre still undeniably pulp.
>>211828333Just impersonators.
>>211834893American giallos, with American setting and characters definitely lack the aesthetics.
>>211834918>>211834893By the 70โs and 80โs, a lot of American cities were over run with riff raff. The decline of usa could really be noticed by the comparison of movies in the 60s, 70โs and 80โs. The biggest decline was from 70โs to 80โs.
>>211835099I donโt think he has posted since last year.
>>211834893>>211835260American culture really is just โbiggerโ and โlouder.โ There is no refinement.

>>211835721Oh, so youโre the npm impersonator. lol
>>211833644The Devil Bat

>>211834508I can think of a few set in closed/abandoned hotels but active ones? Hmmm....
Daughters Of Darkness
Abbot And Costello Meet The Killer, Boris Karloff
Ants!
Haunts Of The Very Rich
>>211820919>Definitely seems like it blows its load early with the openerarguably they all do that. The premonitions are always the biggest flashiest moment in every final destination.
>>211835947I think since he mentioned Innkeepers he's probably fine with ones where it's not even off season
Daughters of Darkness being in off season Ostend is a great idea, and I love the Flesh and Blood Show for being set in an off season decommissioned theatre on a seaside pier but that one doesn't have a hotel. Off season/abandoned tourist places are a great setting
>>211836007This one had the worse opening. Way too many African. Rest of the movie was above average.
>>211836366This movie, a mainstream movie, pretty much had no blacks after the opening. Amazing.
Gonna watch The Flesh and Blood Show again actually
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZaV4UxaCPE
>>211837557>brought back Christophe Gans but not Dan Laustsen (who's doing the cinematography for Del Toro's Frankenstein instead) >SH2 retread AGAIN >took forever to actually film it >consulted with konami where im pretty sure none of the people who worked on SH2 still work at to make a mishmash of various SH enemies from multiple games to include so it's SH2 plus a bunch of scrimblos >written by Gans who i'm positive is incapable of understanding James is supposed to be a pissy weirdo freak >teaser footage looked like it was from a Knott's Scary Farm event more than a film No. The first one is only sort of okay because it looks cool.
>>211837557personally I'd prefer an adaptation of Silent Hill 4 with lots of voyeur scenes of Henry peeping into Eileen's apartment
>>211838245SH4 actually would work way better as a film than SH2 since Henry is basically a camera since he's a stoic introvert, you'd still need a good actor but you don't need to pass of lines like "how can you sit there and eat pizza?" from the same guy who says "I needed someone to punish me for my sins." It's also an incomplete game so you have more room to work with the narrative.
Though really I think anything after 4 should do something completely different. Silent Hill f looks good because it's not just repeating SH2 again. Hell even the fucking first SH movie had to rip SH2.
marathoning poltergeist (1982) today. what should I marathon next?
>>211838759Hellraiser: Hellworld
>>211838817I've never seen a hellraiser film. do I need to marathon the first 7 movies first?
>>211839043The first Hellraiser is iconic and a must watch for any horror fan, 2 and 3 are also pretty good. Ignore the rest unless you want to punish yourself lol
>>211839043No, they're independent of eachother. All you have to know is that there's a puzzlebox, it opens up the gates of hell, and hell is inhabited by "cenobites". Their deal is pain. One popular cenobite character has needles/pins stuck all over his shaved head.
>>211839043Hellraiser (1987) and Hellraiser (2022) are the only Hellraiser movies that exist.
>>211839043>>211839207I've only seen the first 2 and enjoyed them both.
>>211839207I also enjoyed 2022 Hellraiser.
I get why some people like Hellrasier 2 but it's never really manged to capture my imagination.
>>211839043>I've never seen a hellraiser film
>>211836260Been saving that so I didn't know what the score was with it. So we've got:
Seven Keys To Bald Pate (and most of it's remakes)
Shock Waves
The Beyond
Bloody New Year
Witchery (aka La Casa 4)
Tower Of Terror (good luck finding that though)
See No Evil
The Last Resort
(some of these are meh to bad but adding them anyway)
For active hotels, I forgot Curse Of The Crimson Altar. There's a ton of others I'm mostly forgetting set in smaller country inns:
City Of The Dead
B&B's:
The Haunting Of Seacliff Inn
and conversions too:
High Spirits
> I love the Flesh and Blood Show for being set in an off season decommissioned theatre on a seaside pier but that one doesn't have a hotel. Off season/abandoned tourist places are a great settingYou might like The Clown At Midnight then, if you haven't seen it.
>>211839520Actually I'll amend that. Most of them are meh to bad, but several are shlock kino.
>>211839520>Seven Keys To Bald Pate (and most of it's remakes)Kek, that's an insane amount but a fair few are shorter than modern features at least
Curse of the Crimson Altar is just a country house iirc, though a lot of those are basically hotel sized
>>211839147I punish myself by watching X
Don't know how many of are living in a country/area that is experiencing a heat wave right now, but lets share some horror kinos set during heat waves.
>Graveyard Shift
>Maximum Overdrive
>Nightmare On Elm Street 2
>>211828543Fuck the haters, I'm still watching this. From what my local theater is showing, I'm not prioritizing kiddy/normiecore remakes like Lilo & Stitch, How to Train you Dragon, or even Elio. And I already watched Final Destination, 28 Years Later and Mission: Impossible. And I'm sure not prioritizing F1 over it, which some people seem to want it it to become a big hit but while I liked Gran Turismo, that and Ferrari didn't do that great, racing movies are box office poison if they don't have Toretto and his family.
>>211822285>>211833770When I watched Marshmallow 2025, I kept thinking about /tv/, and how /tv/ would consider "does that mean you can fuck female child robots"? Especially because of that little Hispanic slutbot that wanted the main Jew botboy's dinkie for no reason.
/tv/ would fuck
>>211840599>And I'm sure not prioritizing F1 over it, which some people seem to want it it to become a big hit but while I liked Gran Turismo, that and Ferrari didn't do that great, racing movies are box office poison if they don't have Toretto and his family.I'm confused. Are you not watching F1 because you think it will be bad or because you think it won't be a hit?
>>211834508The Lift
Poltergeist III
Dark Water
>>211839984The one version I know isn't a hotel is House Of The Long Shadows.
You're right, the lodge part of the name and the plot point about the brother staying there stuck in my mind and threw me. That and I'd read the place is a hotel now.
>>211842112They changed the title for that one. Baldpate Inn is a real place (now called Seven Keys lol) but I didn't mean they were all country house ones, just there are a lot of versions of it. They're mostly named after the real life place that inspired it apart from the obvious
The country house bit was about Crimson Altar. In the story it's a country house, but that's an irl hotel now too. It used be Gilbert from Gilbert and Sullivan's country house but it got taken over by the council as a film location in the 60s for a while before getting turned into a hotel. It's called Grim's Dyke and it's in lots of stuff like The Avengers from the era
Too far for me, but this Drive-In in my state has a great showing.
>>211843045Until Dawn was fine especially grading it as a video game adaptation but I wouldn't travel to watch it. It's very much a streaming movie.
I would have swapped Cujo and Pet Sematary. Cujo is really depressing, Pet Sematary is sad but definitely has more popcorn appeal.
>>211843183Another drive-in in my state is showing M3GAN 2.0 next month. Only a 30-50 minute drive. If my car had better speakers, I'd probably see it that way.
>>211843305Wouldn't it be weird watching it at a drive in alone?
what is a good erotic horror? I want to be scaroused.
what's a good horror movie to watch while wanking?
>>211843503Part 1 of Extraneous Matter
>>211843549>>211843554how come you responded to
>>211843503 instead of me when I essentially asked the same question? It's because I'm brown, isn't it.

>>211843683Just didn't see it. Part 1 of Extraneous Matter is definitely erotic.
>>211841441I don't know if it will be bad, I just prefer to find the time to watch M3gan feeling I'll love the camp. I didn't watch Ad Astra. The last Brad Pitt movie I loved in a theater was Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and that also had Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie.
>>211843793>I didn't watch Ad Astra.you didn't miss much it's very dull outside of one scene with a monkey in space
>>211843842>outside of one scene with a monkey in space
>>211842788>The country house bit was about Crimson AltarYeah, that's what I was referring to. I shoud've separated those but gotta avoid that "reddit spacing" you know. They called it Craxted Lodge in the movie, hence my confusion. (I know they use that for private hunting lodges and the like too but still)
>>211842061Is The Lift a hotel? I was going to add the remake but in that it's more a generic multiuse building.
>>211843733Lifeforce is pure beta nerd energy
>>211844298The Lift is centered around a misbehaving elevator in the "Icarus" office building.
>>211844604Same as Down then. It's modeled on the Empire State in that so it's a mix of business space and apartments.

>>211831491I watched that when I was a kid. Great movie, and a really cool design for the monster.
>>211844604>>211845745Is this a cute & funny kino?
>>211846723Naw, the kid's barely in it.
Death Machine but it has a budget and a good director and cinematographer
>>211839043i like 1-5
go further at your own risk though
>>211846893I fell asleep watching Death Machine during Christmas holidays about two days ago
>>211847283Yeah a lot of b movies have the issue where there's only like 35 minutes of movie if you cut away all the padding to get it to feature film length. Even weirder for Death Machine since it's over 2 hours when it could easily be like 70 minutes.
>>211839043you should stop after 2 or at most 3
people hype up 4 but the only good thing about is the hot demon chick
>>211847283*two years ago
I can't believe Pennywise melts into a puddle when people say mean things to him
>>211847942Why not? He takes what is it, 27 years to power up when he has a whole town to feed off of?
Need some scary kino to watch with my folks, they're not fans of gore and neither am I but anything else supernatural, psychological, etc. is fair game. My mother in particular liked Hell House, Cure, Pulse, and Session 9
>>211828611I would say it's about as much of a horror film as Gremlins.
>>211828639From watching all the trailers and promotional material, it seems like an action film with "horror elements." The other protagonists only reluctantly accept M3GAN as an ally and they're still off put by the fact that she is a soulless automaton that tried to murder them all not that long ago.
I hope it at least does well enough to get some more good fanart.
