>It's not a hyper-realistic, grim survival movie like my favorite YouTube critics say all good movies need to be.
>Therefore its terrible!
This movie isn't a masterpiece, but the criticisms of it are so lazy and performative

then what did you expected another one line the first one or the second one?
then you would have complaint that it was playing safe.

The main real validad criticism of this film that is there enough action scenes or infected/zombies scenes
THAT is the main problem with this film.

Sure, but I feel like I’ve seen that movie before. What would you have liked instead? The Alpha leading a coordinated attack on the fort?

The idea of the kid being raised to be some macho killer, then rejecting his father's survivalist mindset to save his mom, wasn't a bad direction. And it’s not like they came up with some miracle cure. I liked the idea of the son having to accept his mom’s death without selling his soul like his father did.

No. I mean WHY they dont even mention killing him, the kid doesnt object even though he saw him killing and know he can get up.
>The idea of the kid being raised to be some macho killer, then rejecting his father's survivalist mindset to save his mom
The kid was a shit character but i liked the premise, his motivation for straight up abandoning his father was weak, he was loving towards him, his mom was insane. The mom was a shit character too but her ending was okay. It should have ended with the letter to his dad.

that's not the ending, it's an epilogue which directly follows from the prologue of the movie.
the real thematic ending was Spike leaving the baby to the village and venturing on his own, after facing death and the imperfectness of his parents.

trailercels comprehensively BTFO

A decade ago and earlier it was common for the trailer to diverge heavily from the movie, and most of my best cinema experiences were movies where I went in not knowing what the film was about at all. In the last decade it's become common that if you've seen the trailer, you can judge how far in the movie you are from how much of the trailer you've seen, and you're never ever surprised. If you think surprise is a bad thing, then you're a mindless consumer who never wants to be challenged

actually the trailer has the same structure as the movie, starting with Jimmy's backstory, then showing the town, then Spike and his dad, then Spike and his mum and Ralph and the bone temple.

you just didn't care about the later stuff.

I went to the theater to see 28 Weeks Later when it came out (I was the only one there on a Saturday in a town of 15,000 - fun fact).
I went to see this when it came out.

28 Days > Years > Weeks

Years was fun. I feel like most of the people bitching about it don't remember what Days was even like, and are so addled by the last 20 years of slop that they can't appreciate a character driven film like this without non-stop zombie action. Beautiful shots. Great acting all around. The end was completely set up from the very beginning, with several references to Jimmy. So not sure why normie retards are acting like it's this huge asspull ending.

The mom wasn’t a lifelong deranged schizo, she had only been acting like that for a few months. Which is why the dad’s “dunno what it is m8, better abandon her and fuck some slag” attitude made the kid so angry.

I enjoyed the film for what it was but was disappointed that it wasn't what I was hoping for. The first third of the film was brilliant; tense, frenetic, grounded in something resembling logic based reality... Then it just went off. Again, enjoyable on its own merits but a big time tonal shift and not what it could and maybe should have been.
The more I think about it the more weird contrivances I come across. So many things in the film just don't make any logical sense from a world building or plot aspect, things that could have been handled much better but weren't, for whatever reason. There are a few standout moments that, after the fact, have me thinking 'what the fuck were they thinking with that?'.
I'll reserve full judgement until the trilogy is done. The Jimmy Saville power ranger cult is one of the least batshit things about the film really. At least that was clearly intentional. The tonal shift there is purposeful. The rest of the film was filled with way worse incongruity and script writing laziness.

The ultimate own goal. This is why you people are goy cattle. And should have a King instead of democracy.

>The more I think about it the more weird contrivances I come across

Ultimately the film has to have contrivances to maintain the small scale British feel of the first one. Trying to go 'bigger' in order to explain the logic of the world and what happened here or there just leads you to shit like 28 Weeks later.
Honestly stunned that they actually made the film they did and not 28 YEARS LATER INFECTED IN NEW YORK !!! type shit which is what I was expecting

Yeah gee Billy, imagine going to watch a sequel that's tonally similar to it's predecessors. The most retarded defense I've seen for this film is claiming that the first one is some sort of surrealist subversion too when the main reason it succeeded was because of it's realism and bleakness. People wanted more of that, pure and simple.

Preach it, brother. This movie doesn't even feel like it's part of the same franchise. It's like it was written by women who watched thirty minutes of the first movie.

I saw the movie, and I'm wondering, does this retcon the idea that the zombies die after 28 days without food? Because there's no way there's that many of them left after 28 years.

The zombies never died after 28 days, the movie takes place 28 days after the outbreak.

Based on the first movie it looks like they start dying off en mass somewhere between 30 and 60 days from infection

The idea is that some of the infected are like animal level smart like chimps so they’ve been able to continue and as a result they also can create more infected

However the idea that they are capable of raising young seems far fetched

The idea that the rest of the world is fine is utterly stupid

The rage virus if it did not destroy the world would have been irradiated from England

You think the world would just let England sit there full of dangerous zombies after the Americans lost like a few hundred soldiers in 28 weeks

No way

It looks like these infected were based on the second wave in 28 weeks later. Somewhere along the way they learned (or were taught) to eat and drink and reproduce.

No you go in with padded gear that humans can’t bite through and masks so they’ve can’t bleed on you and you go through house by house killing everyone who’s infected

They literally begin to die off starvation and closure in a couple of weeks, the idea that the military with ships and tanks and reinforced bases would have been overrun is insane

They are humans without weapons, without organization, without anything besides surprise and ferocity

I assume that its just about evolution? Like the majority will die off but the really fast ones that can catch a deer will survive etc

The ending either makes or breaks it for you.
The alpha chasing Jamie and Spike on the causeway under the Northern Lights was beautiful.
The pregnant Infected giving birth and Isla helping was retarded, Spike going to the mainland with his tard mom was also dumb even for a 12 year old.
The lack of Infected during large part of Spike's journey was also dumb.
