I watched it again recently and my gf saw it for the first time. It wasn't immediately laughably to her but she was very confused at the opening. Nolan dialogue is purposefully contrived and barely audible, so if you're an esl speaker you're fucked

I think the in-universe reason was that CIA was investigating Big Guy and he wanted to kill him and ensure every lead he uncovered died with him
