That show actually got fun once it embraced its weird campness and edginess mix. And it more or less abandoned the "Batman prequel" idea and just became a Batman show without Batman in it, just Bruce Wayne...still doing a lot of Batman stuff.

On the forearm, just above the wrist. Those yellowish triangle-ish badges.

Low-budget series produced by a couple of Second City vets, so there's humor and weird ideas buried among the wall-to-wall chintz. The "teenage" cast, all in their twenties, were personable and deserved better. Hard to binge because of the formulaic storytelling.

Back then there were a huge amount of sci-fi or urban fantasy shows that had no budget for it that wrote it's lore specifically to be cheap, like all of the monsters looked like regular humans no make up even. The Invisible Man was the only of those shows that wrote lack of budget itself into it's lore. They spent most of the money on the transitioning into invisibility cgi so they wrote that the Agency spent it's whole budget on developing invisibility so now they have to leech of the budgets of other insignificant government agencies. Damn, it was a good show.

I don't want to put Legion in this thread because the first season was good. But it also suffered the same problem. I mean just imagine. You have been given free reign to make your own X-Men show. You can literally go wild with prostethics and practical effects. These are people who are discriminated because they are visibly not human or have dangerous powers. So... what do you do? You give everyone the ability to be slightly faster/stronger than a human or make them shoot lasers from their hands. EVERY TIME.

Some of the shows sucked but some sucked and then became good by embracing certain aspects, or the opposite. Arrow for instance went downhill the more romance they focused on. Legends of Tomorrow started out boring then became good when they shifted into weird comedy and got more and more bizarre. They also learned to lean on their best cast members and drop the dead weight.

I've tried rewatching Arrow. Its a terrible feeling knowing where it goes in the future seasons and dreading it. Every show between 2015 and 2023 is incredibly difficult to watch as the woke shit is outdated the second you hear it. By the time they had a show for every day of the week they all had to have a gay relationship, a lesbian relationship, a black guy, a strong woman, and every plot was less about superhero stuff and more about taking a shot at Trump

In the first season this show didn't know what it wanted to be, seemed torn between trying to be a realistic police procedural or a superhero show. From the second season onwards they embraced the cheesy superhero elements and committed to playing everything straight, no winking at the camera to try to play off how silly it is with a joke or anything like that. It actually turned out pretty good. Better than anything the CW put out.

But know that the devil villain was voiced by John Noble, and while watching The Return of the King on their time travelling ship, the heroes noticed the villain sounded a lot like John Noble, so they time travelled to 1999 in New Zealand to the set of LOTR where John Noble was in his trailer in his full Denethor outfit, and they had him read out some false orders to the villain's henchmen under the guise of new script pages from a rewrite.

Boy that is some turnaround from debut to self-titled live action series. Not even connected to any Arrowverse or other DC TV show, just straight from comic to standalone TV show. Even reasonably recent characters like Stargirl were around nearly twenty years before getting their own TV show, those sorts of secondary and tertiary characters are normally just guest spots or recurring roles in longer running superhero shows, like Smallville or The Flash or whichever.

Even mentions it was first announced as being in development in December 2020, not even two years after the character's first appearance.

Which didn't even make sense because they had to hastily explain why there even was Batman on the Justice League team in Suicide Squad at all when Batman had been publicly exposed and seemingly committed suicide at the end of Arkham Knight (bar the golden ending showing a post-credits of a mysterious demonic looking bat figure in Gotham...which was not followed up on in any way in Suicide Squad). It just had to say actually Batman is alive and he's just Batman again as normal.

Then of course they copped out exactly as we all knew they would by having the Justice League turn out to be Brainiac clones and not the real Justice League, who were rescued by the end of the DLC storylines. What a way to waste nine years of Rocksteady on a GaaS that had the GaaS part unsuccessfully stripped out after increasing backlash to that model of video game.

They cast a spell to fight the big demon that combined the team into a single mighty form. There was a running gag throughout that season of this Furbie type talking toy, Beebo, starting with them finding one dropped in the past being worshipped by an early Viking tribe that thought it was a real creature, and it popped up a few more times. Then Ghostbusters style, the form the heroes took was taken from their minds, and one of them had Beebo on the brain so they manifested as a gigantic version of the toy. This was the climax of the third season.

In a period where Arrow and Flash were bogged down by maudlin relationship drama and a miserable tone, Legends of Tomorrow really started standing out for how bonkers it was.

I only watched I think two episodes, it was sadly really boring, outside of Matt Ryan being really good as Constantine, just pitch perfect casting. The good news is they folded him into the Arrowverse and he got to reprise the role as a guest star on Arrow, and the later on as a regular on Legends of Tomorrow. Plus voiced him in a few DC animated features.

One funny side effect of him moving from NBC to the CW, is the CW had a rule about smoking, namely that you couldn't show it. This was a slight issue given Constantine is an iconic chain smoker. So they got around it by simply not having him visibly smoke on camera. They could show him WITH a cigarette and his zippo lighter, even about to light it, and either having him interrupted or cutting to another scene, or having obviously just finished one and is stubbing it out on the ground. Later on they had him cut back on his smoking in-universe after a brush with lung cancer, but he'd still have a pack he'd pull one out of now and then.

Silly, but gotta dodge round those corporate mandates.

What was WB even thinking with that shit? People were gonna come in droves for some girl no one heard of? By the time Batwoman started premiering the CW had like no audience. But they were still greenlighting shows like Nancy Drew, Sabrina the teenage Witch, Naomi, and Stargirl. If I recall more people were hate watching it or watching the grifter reviews on YouTube than the actual show. And its funny because the one time they decided to pump the brakes was for that live action PowerPuff Girls show

Like that Anon said it's speculated to be a rights issue where WB doesn't actually own the live action television rights to Batman due to NBC and thus Disney owning it from the Adam West show.

It kind of makes sense since Batman hasn't actually starred in any show since the Adam West show. Bruce Wayne can show up, and occasionally you'll get a half-second shot of a guy in a Bat costume like the end of Gotham, but you won't actually get Batman, in a Batman costume running around as a normal character in any of them like you will Superman. Same with the Joker, even the clown guy in Gotham wasn't actually the Joker.

I like it because of the carnival angle, it being on HBO doesn't matter at all. We need more carnival stories, man. Especially taking place during the great depression or earlier. You don't even need the supernatural stuff, just make a story about the hardships of managing a travelling circus and dealing with both camp politics and town politics along your route. That stuff is interesting enough when you can have such a colourful cast of trained professionals, societal outcasts and cripples trying to make a living together.

This one is an interesting story. Remember the Aqua Teen Hi ger Force Boston Bomb scare? It has to do with that.

Basically, most of Cartoon Network's success was due to one man, Jim Staples. Not only did he pioneer most of the original programming for CN's golden years, but he was the main reason Space Ghost: Coast to Coast and, by proxy, Adult Swim, came to be.
With Cartoon Network sitting solidly in first for children's cable rankings AND having a strong foothold in late night entertainment, CN was on top of the world.
Then, they announced an Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie. And they hired some guys to viral market it.

This leads to the ATHF Boston Bomb scare. Despite Jim Staple's success, he took the grenade for CN and took the blame himself, leaving the company. With a major vacuum in the driving force of their creative executives, a man named Stuart Snyder stepped in to Staples' role and said "what if we did REAL PEOPLE?"

So basically, Cartoon Network's slow death was due to people from Boston being fucking morons.

Should done that, had all the promo shots be of her in regular clothes and then when she show starts she's always in leather and chainmail with an axe, then slowly transforms into more feminine leather and chainmail, with a really realistic fake beard throughout. Keep making the audience expect her to shave her beard in some final moment of acceptance but it never happens because she's a dwarf dammit. You know, stay truer to Pratchett's story instead of making up a second big human guy raised by dwarves like Carrot, but this one's also trans for some reason and Sam being the only character with a beard despite him being described as shaving or having stubble all the time.

People concentrate heavily on the "Bendis wants blacks!" aspect but they don't look enough at the "Bendis wants royalties" aspect, which is a lot more cynical. He makes royalties from how hard Miles is pushed now, he was trying to do the same with this Naomi. Of course he made this character then immediately went about trying to get a TV show made of her.
