Why do zombie/infection movies barely show the "start" of it? Its always post apocalyptic or just skipped over in 1 scene. I thought the whole 20 minute news segment in dawn of the dead was amazing despite it being just a made for dvd piece. I think showing the breakdown in order and the government response to it would make for a good film.

I always thought the black character was clearly picked cause he was black and also played the trope of the cool, calm and collected black man while everyone is packing. I remember in the Dead Space movie, the native played that role too. And many modern movies have blacks playing the “break up the fight” guy.
Romero’s case is wierd because casting blacks for those roles wasnt even a thing. He legitimately went out his way to cast him and get someone to write that scene in.
