The first 7 seasons of Trailer Park Boys (pre-Netflix) were something special and unique.

Despite the constant swearing and drug use the show had heart. It didn't rely on gross-out humor and they had an odd and almost undefinable degree of restraint - they somehow understood exactly what lines not to cross. It was wholesome scumbaggery.

The dialog had an improvised feel, you could tell that most scenes were only loosely outlined with the characters improvising.

The Netflix garbage is clearly scripted with almost none of the spontaneous feel, the written jokes are all either shit that was played out in goddamn Vaudeville or gross-out humor, Ricky is constantly screaming about his cock and balls, its just loud and obnoxious shit and the heart is completely gone from it.

I don't care, I'll always have the first 7 seasons, and nobody can take that away from me. Nothing lasts forever.

Btw I didn't know they had a Netflix show. I think I've seen they had an animated show but didn't bother to watch it.

Trust me, you're better off never seeing it.

I'm on season 3 and loving it so far but I have universally heard bad shit post season 7, like its rare to see a fanbase this consistent with something. Is there anything worth salvaging or is it all shit? Any of the movies good atleast?

The first 6 seasons are pretty much universally loved, season 7 gets some rightful flak but its nothing compared to the Netflix shitshow.

The Christmas Special is good, I'm not sure if Netflix lists it as a movie or a tv special. The first movie is also good, although they recast Ricky's daughter since they wanted her to be younger for the film.

There are 2 other movies (I think) one of which is bad and one which I haven't seen.

There is a 1 hour special after season called "Say Goodnight To The Bad Guys". That's worth watching. it's only about 48 minutes.

Damn..I'm so jealous. I remember watching it with my gf at the end of high school and laughing our asses off.

I think one or two of the movies is good.

>Is there anything worth salvaging or is it all shit?
They just got old and the novelty wore off, the writing became repetitive. First 7-8 seasons are absolute kino, enjoy :)

I don't think its ever addressed how he died, its just acknowledged that he died offscreen and Randy pretty much becomes a permeant friend rather than a foe.

Also look up "The Cart Boy" on Youtube. Its a 10 minute short film they made way back in 1995, its interesting to see as its basically the genesis for everything that followed.

Once the HD cameras and more professional crane shots start creeping in around season 6 is when the rot begins to set in. Once you start seeing more crisp, professional looking shots as they dump the mocumentary style filmmaking, it loses an essence. I tried watching a piece of the later Netflix seasons and some of the imagery was actually annoying to the eyes and nauseating to look at.

The movies were okay, more or less longer episodes with better image, but one of the films was actually a real downer. This was when they were tired and just wanted a break so they had this one film that was a very bummer of a movie where everyone was at each others throats and the whole thing ended with the boys in jail and they finally tell the film crew to stop filming them. It was like a bitter fever dream of a movie. Once the Netflix money started pouring in after an extended break, it was back to sunshine and roses again. It was even a cartoon at one point.

Back in 2004 when TPB was still pretty much a cult thing, Ricky and Julian were both cast in a movie with Michelle Williams and Meatloaf. I always thought that was weird, but its interesting that someone in Hollywood was aware of them at that point and saw something in them.
