The Good Place
I just finished this and it has one of the dumbest takes on heaven, like, ever. How the hell can you get bored of Heaven? The ending was so depressing

What did you think you would accomplish with this thread? The show started out great and then quickly devolved into the most basic takes on philosophy 101. The only reason to watch it past episode 4 is Janet.

I can't remember if I watched the ending but I watched it with my gf and thought it was very good through 3 seasons. One of the few creative and not actively kiked new tv series of the last 10 years

I never understood why Jason's last name is Mendoza. Didn't he say he's a Filipino immigrant?

I don't think I'd ever get bored of heaven. The number of video games or isekai I'd try out would be infinitesimal. Hell I'd live in the Harry Potter world for multiple lifetimes, each time trying out different ways of living.

But in the context of the show, I mean it was an ending so they had to put some sort of thematic climax. Jason was implied to have tried out a plethora of different experiences in the magic portal door and even that he got bored of. The rest of the gang lived in heaven for hundreds of "years" before they started to get bored of it. Tahani was the only realistic character from that perspective, who likely got bored of perpetual pleasure and shifted to a creative fulfilling role, one that would keep her occupied as long as humans existed.

I wish Jason stayed with Tahani

I thought Ted Danson was great and wanted to fuck Janet but the entire show was literally like taking a 25 hour theology lesson from a lesbian Reform rabbi

The "you'd get bored with heaven" stuff is dumb because novelty also cycles, you can watch your favorite movie 100 times in a row until you get sick of it but if you don't watch it for a decade you'll like it again

So a trillion years would be more like
>mating pressing Audrey Hepburn got a little stale after a third millennium, I'm gonna go hunt aliens with Charles Bronson for a century or two and then I'll get back to her later

I had the same reaction. American tv shows are all geared towards socially awkward chronically mentally ill lonely people who think too much about pseudointellectual drivel and don't know how to have fun.
If you watch hispanic tv or indian tv it's different.
Anyway, from the beginning I was like, why does heaven suck so much? I'm glad at least there was a twist from that.

Why wouldn't it be? Philipinos are asian + spanish. You are abrading against your own ignorance. Then you post it without bothering to do a simple google search.

Ted Danson was extremely good in this. He carried it while Kristen Bell was just herself.

Exactly.
There's this weird "pleasure is dumb and can't last" strain in mainstream pseudointellectual discourse that is so insidious. It's some "you will have nothing and be happy" globohomo social engineering talking points. Right next to "you're not supposed to non-obese!" "You're not supposed to be able to live without psychiatric drugs!"

It may have had jewish involvement but as an objective watcher I didn't feel like it was a hamfisted theology blackpill. Sidney Lumet was jewish and his films didn't kike pill people they were very justice oriented. You need to see the enemy not focus on the last name

It's the Janet show. The romance is forced and all the other characters are boring. I kind of liked Mindy, except for the boring reference thing. Overall the show is about as queer as the OP circlejerking dudes

But the whole show makes a point that the insane social justice witch-hunt is a problem, there literally was a scene where Eleanor complains that you can't eat at Chick-fil-A without accusations of hating homos.

White women travel to drink house wine! Men can play video game...on a really big tv! Career women can get a job bossing people around to torture humans to earn a place in heaven! Optional suicide!!!!!!! Ok maybe reddit heaven is a fine name too.

All they did was travel. No one even thought to be a bug or fly or create planets or live as a gas giant. Jason played a single video game with his dad then meditated in the forest then killed himself.

That was in general a huge problem with the show, both heaven and hell seemed too mundane and grounded, I guess it must've been the budget issue but couldn't they at least show some more miracles in heaven? Or something simple yet funny like the gang turning into birds and spending decades in a rainforest? So much wasted potential

I was really hoping the reason no one goes to The Good Place would be that Good Place denizens and Bad Place denizens are the same, they both hate humans and just express that hate in different ways. Bad Placers want to torture humans and Good Placers don't want them around so they have ultra strict standards so no nasty humans ever ruin their nice Good Place. This would explain Mindy St Clair having her little Medium Place. But then they pulled the stupid "the modern world is like so complicated" bullshit.

I thought that the Good Place residents tinkered with the points system so fewer people would get in, which made sense cause it would be yet another allegory for 'Capitalism bad'
