Fatigue and it's kind of a homework movie. To know who Yelena or Walker are, you need to watch Black Widow/Hawkeye/FATWS - and god knows those three alone are extremely mid. FATWS is a fucking insult to television.
But I still maintain that if this aired before that dogshit FalconCap movie, it might have done better numbers. I know that the physical and streaming release will do alright now some word of mouth has helped at least.

Marvel fatigue mostly. I enjoyed it but it's seriously nothing amazing. I was just surprised to find myself giving a shit about these characters that I had done zero homework on twenty or thirty minutes in. So now my brain is confused and thinks it's REALLY good when nah man I'm just so burned out I'm happy with competency. I guess it comes out July or something so I think (hope) it gets a little more wind in it's sails thanks to streaming but it was never destined to succeed.

1) There are zero legitimate stars in this picture. The two biggest names are probably Sebastian Stan and Pugh and neither of them move the needle at all.
2) For the most part these are barely even B-tier characters. Red Guardian, 2nd string black Black Widow, 2nd string Captain America and Captain America's sidekick...it's like a preseason NFL game where none of the starters are playing.
3) And while having an underwhelming cast and roster doesn't necessarily make it bad, it means the plebs are only going to show up opening weekend because of the branding. Which is a problem since they diluted the brand so badly. There's been more Marvel content than ever the past few years but none of it was significant.

A big problem with the fantastic four in the mcu is that they owe a great deal of their notoriety to being Marvel's "first family" but in the mcu they never existed or were mentions (i think the baxter building is mentioned in one movie), so it just seems awkward to try and put them in after the fact, even if the movie takesplace in an alternate timeline.

I think it’s a huge casting miss. I mean your big stars are from 1 wicker man rip off five years ago and there’s no public goodwill toward anyone involved with stranger things. You’re fan favorite…let’s hardly involve him. It looks cheap, late to the game and like they aren’t even trying to help any young, charismatic movie stars break out or lean into the one they currently have that ties the old avengers in with the new. Seems like alot of dumb, cheap choices or like the people involved in making these kinds of movies just don’t like their core audience.
