It's arguably better than modern marvel cgi slop.

Judge Dredd is one of the better known characters among the people who care, 1995 was a perfect time to do a gritty and bloody cinematic adaption but instead we got a strange and goofy take on it where Stallone doesn't even wear the mask for most of it.
It's also an objectively bad movie

Dredd 2012 works because it captures the spirit of the source material, translates it into something that's part of the cinema zeitgeist (4 years after The Dark Knight, nuff said), and does something unique and advanced on a technical level (the 3D effects was applied excellently).
Andor is another recent success story where they keep enough of the original source material but adapt it for episodic tv very well

Nobody outside of a handful of Judge Dredd fans liked Dredd, though. There is nothing original or clever or groundbreaking about it. Stallone's looks and feels cinematic whereas Dredd looks direct to video like that Punisher Warzone movie. That's why Stallone's is still talked about to this day while nobody gives 2 shits or even remembers Dredd.

In the actual plot of the movie not much happens in the third act and it kinda ends like a wet fart. Rob Schnieder isnt even that bad there just isnt much of a story, Dredd gets exiled, he returns and kills the rogue judge and it ends. It looks really cool though.

These people just reject the opinions of the masses whether it's right or wrong. Educated opinions like those of actual published reviewers? Even more disregarded.
