>Gladys uses sticks and people's hair and bells to control people with her spells so they can do anything she wants including chasing other people and hurting themselves. She controls them by doing snapping a stick covered in their hair and her blood or putting their stick in a bowl of water.
>Gladys gets control of Alex's parents with her spell and becomes young again and tries to make Alex go back to school and act as if nothing has happened and basically become a slave who who to keep his parents fed and his house looking normal until she can escape as a young woman
>Alex and his Witch aunt do a spell to make the kids leave the house to the woods while the police search it and they come back when they are in the clear.
>Just when it looks like Gladys is going to win by controlling even more townpeople, the teacher and the father from the assembly show up to the house and investigate, creating a huge fight that distracts the WITCH long enough to let Alex use his knowledge of the spells to break control of his parents and the children, who explode out of the house and beat the WITCH to death.

Witches are cool. The ability to dominate minds from the safety of your basement is a lot more terrifying than any gun. This is why witchcraft is terrifying, had it been functional. As well, the sheer implications behind such a thing can’t be chalked up to anything but the inhuman. It’s beyond human capability. What is the deciding, or sponsor factor? Persons in the past had assumed magic rituals to be baseless and useless, a domain of artistic ignorance, without a god or demon (Ayy) to reinforce such things. Gladys was on her deathbed. Did she bargain with some entity for her ability to de-age herself? Or did she find the plant randomly?

I don’t think she found the plant randomly since it seems she has knowledge of how to do various spells. She probably has a background that we’re not seeing. Clearly she is learned in her craft. But where she acquired the plant, or the ability, is likely a mystery.

Magic is way too convenient for it not to be sourced to some bad alien intelligence behind-the-scenes. Magic as a concept is inherently bad if it takes such a shape.

Gladys is an alien or something. Witches aren’t human. True witches anyway.

This is the gist of what happens

>The film centers around several characters with overlapping timelines, inspired by Magnolia. There are a lot of characters and storylines to keep track of, and I only read it once, so excuse me if some stuff is slightly off.
We start with Justine, the teacher of the class where all but one of its students leave at 2:17 am. Parents harass her at some sort of parent teacher meeting, but the principal of the school, Andrew, defends her. Someone is clearly following her, but she ignores it. She goes home and her car is vandalized by someone unseen, she goes to the police but they don't have any info. There she reunites with Paul, an ex lover and a cop. They later run into each other at a bar and sleep together. Justine wants to check up on Alex, the one student who is left from her class, but Andrew tells her she can't. Eventually she follows the boy to his home and sees it is a complete mess. That night she has what appears to be a dream where she sees a woman in garish makeup embedded into her ceiling. She goes to a liquor store and is attacked by Paul’s girlfriend. She then follows Alex to his house again to ask him about what is going on at his house but he screams at her. She falls asleep in her car outside of the house and a gaunt looking woman steps out of the house, walking in the same pose that the children were running in. She steps into Justine’s car and cuts out a lock of her hair.

>We cut to Archer, one of the parents of a missing child. He sleeps in his child’s bed every night. He constantly replays the video footage looking for clues. He goes to the police and asks for any info on Justine, but they don't have anything. We now see the parent teacher meeting from his perspective. We learn he was the one following Justine and it is implied that he vandalizes her car. He then has a strange dream sequence where he sees a giant AR-15 and the same woman from Justine's “dream”. Archer then decides to gather a few parents to try and place together where the kids went, and traces it out on a map. He then sees Justine at a gas station. We notice her hair is missing a chunk. They talk for a minute, but Justine is suddenly attacked by the Andrew, who appears almost zombie like and runs at her in the signature arms out pose. Zombie Andrew tries to kill Justine, but the scene ends with a cut to the next character.

>Paul talks to his wife over the phone and she says she'll be at a business trip for the next few days. He steps outside and has his first run in with Justine. We see him on patrol stop a guy trying to break into a building, but Paul is a little too rough with the guy. He decides to let him go with a warning. The captain tells Paul he saw what he did from the dash cam on his car, but he lets him go as long as the suspect doesn't complain. Later that night, him and Justine sleep together. He goes back home only to see his wife there, as everyone was sent home. She realizes what happened. The next day Paul sees the suspect approaching the station and chases him

>We cut to the suspect, named Anthony, as he tries and fails to smoke some crack in his tent in the woods. He steals car speakers and tries to pawn them to buy some more crack, but he is turned down. We see Paul chasing after him from Anthony's perspective. Later that night Anthony ends up at Alex's house. He breaks inside and sees an unresponsive man and woman on the couch in the living room. He hears strange noises from downstairs and goes down there to see the 17 missing children. He escapes the house with some stuff he stole from the house and goes back to the broker to notice a poster that points to the children having a $50,000 reward for them being found. Anthony goes to the police station to report the children, but then Paul chases him as we saw earlier. They end up in the woods as Anthony sees the woman with the garish makeup, half embedded into the ground. He gets to his tent and stabs Paul in the cheek, believing it to be the woman. Paul prepares to kill Anthony until he tells him about the children. Paul takes them to the house and leaves Anthony in the car while he goes inside. Hours later, Paul steps out of the house in the signature pose and drags Anthony inside.

Andrew tells her he must meet with Alex's parents. Later that night, Gladys shows up to the home of Andre and his wife, and is let in for a glass of water. She peculiarly has a large bag and asks for a bowl instead of a glass. After the bowl is filled, she pulls a stick from the bag and cuts her hand open to bleed on the stick. She then cuts out a bit of the wife’s hair, wraps it around the blood covered stick, and smears some of the blood from her hand on Andrew's face. Gladys pulls out a bell and rings it, causing Andrew to become possessed and assume the signature pose. Gladys snaps the stick in half, causing Andrew to enter a sort of attack mode and kill his wife. Gladys pulls out a stick and wraps the lock of Justine's hair around it, and snaps it. Andrew then runs all the way across town to the gas station and attacks Justine as we saw earlier. A fight and then a chase ensues, which ends with Archer watching Andrew get run over and killed by an unobservant driver. Justine and Archer go to the hospital to get patched up, where he finally shows her his map, and she realized that each child was running to Alex's house.

>The final chapter of the film is named after Alex. We see him on a normal school day, in a normal house, with normal parents. His parents tell him they are going to be keeping their very elderly aunt Gladys for a month. She comes with a strange small potted tree with black leaves. Alex goes back to school, where he is bullied by a boy named Matthew. At the end of the day, his parents don't come to pick him up so he walks home, only to find his parents clearly possessed at the table and a much younger looking Gladys greeting him. Gladys tells him that if he tells anyone what is going on, she will make his parents kill themselves. For a while he is forced to feed his parents, while he sees Gladys continue to gather sticks and hair in her room. On Valentine's day, Alex receives a card from each student. That night, he finds Gladys downstairs, and at 2:17 am, sees her cause the inciting event. Gladys then speaks to the cops and says that Alex’s father had a stroke, while Alex lies to the police about what happened. They cut hairs from each child and wrap them around a large stick. Alex now feeds his parents and the children. When Justine tries to follow Alex home, he screams at her because he knows Gladys is watching. Alex comes home the next day to find possessed Anthony and Paul.

Alex baits his parents into attacking him and bites his father's arm, causing blood to flow onto a stick he stole from the tree. He then snaps this stick, causing his parents to attack each other. During the fight, Archer finds the children downstairs. Justine kills both Paul and Anthony. Archer tries to find his son Matthew in the basement, but is attacked by Gladys, and has some of her blood smeared on her face. Possessed Archer then attacks Justine. Upstairs, Alex puts the sticks for his parents in the toilet, causing them both to collapse. He finds the large stick with each of the children’s hair wrapped around it, bites his hand open, and smears blood on it. He finds Gladys cancer wig, wraps it around a stick, and snaps it. The children then chase Gladys through the neighborhood like a mass of zombies, bursting through windows, and fences. They finally catch her and literally rip her into pieces. Archer snaps out of it, Alex hugs his parents, Justine hugs Alex, and Archer reunites with a blood soaked Matthew. Matthew’s eyes are open, but they are vacant and empty, same case for Alex's parents.

Overall great script. Villain was terrifying as written. Great imagery and memorable scenes. Will depend how they get realised in the movie of course

One part I thought was a little strange is the script refers to this nearby abandoned radio tower a few times, the implication being maybe some kind of broadcast caused the children to run towards it. I almost wished it WAS that and the reveal was gonna be it was some government experiment on mind control as a weapon to turn people themselves into WEAPONS. The kids were most easily affected, then adults gradually started going crazy with attacking eachother and hallucinating things, self harming etc

The script implies she’s not actually related to them. She alternates from being the mom’s sister, then the mom’s aunt, etc. She’s inconsistent. It’s likely she bewitched the parents to begin with.
