It was and is shockingly cool however one thing you need to account for is it wasn't green when it came out. When I saw it in the cinema it was a normal movie where you didn't know the matrix was not the real world at first - at this point you did but it didn't fucking change color to reflect that, that would be moronic.
So anyway it looked cool and real, not like some jean pierre jeunet dream scene like your gif
