The concept of a killer shark wasnt invented by Jaws. There was literally a killer shark arcade game that existed years before the movie. It even appears briefly in Jaws.

Even accounting for territory he was inordinately violent and fixated on attacking humans specifically, just look at how single-mindedly he pursues the Orca after they wound him with the harpoons, that's a predator with a grudge.
