The only real problem I have with the movie is the alpha somehow not getting killed. Like, how the fuck did he get back onto the mainland? Why didn't the boy kill him when he was tranquilized both times? Couldn't the kid's island just stab him to death when he fell face first on the floor? Very odd he gets plot armor.

Besides that, the movie does feel like the first of a trilogy..and it doesn't have as much action sequences as 28 weeks did or feel as self contained as 28 days was.

This is the problem I have with the direction of the franchise, they made it too video gamey.
They tried to do The Last of Us zombies classes with bloaters or some shit. Even those arrow shots were a lame attempt at making some kind of finisher animation.

There are not that many infected left. Throughout the film, the only time you see them is when characters go out of their way to track them down. The father and son at the beginning go out with the specific intent of finding some to kill and it takes them all day. The mother and son only find one when she goes out of her way to track down the pregnant one.

Clearly, the vast majority did. All that's left are a few isolated bands managing to survive eating deer and the like.

They're essentially wildlife at this point. They're dangerous to humans, yes, but they're not an active threat unless you go out of your way to find and antagonize them. There are no swarms of infected beating down the walls of the human settlement. The roles have been reversed, where it's the infected minding their own business and living their lives until humans enter their habitats to seek them out to kill them. They even seem to be managing to procreate and the father seems to recognize that he might be in the wrong when he hesitates to shoot a child zombie. I think it was an interesting theme, definitely not something I've seen in any other zombie fiction, and I hope it gets developed further in the sequels.

Surely those two were the same incident. The Swedes spent who knows how long bumbling around, having no idea how to act to not attract attention, and eventually ran into a pack. That same pack spotted the mother and son, which is why last surviving Swede happened to be right there in time to save them and felt obligated to do so.

The only one that comes anywhere near is one that they actively sought out, antagonized, and led back. The doctor has lived in the middle of the forest for decades with seemingly very little in the way of defenses.

Who knows what's going on in their heads? If you go out of your way to find and antagonize a grizzly bear then it will kill and eat you, too. First half was good when he went out ranging with his dad. Second half was poor because it felt like there were no stakes. You could tell that nothing bad was gonna happen to the mom and the kid in terms of the infected. I felt the party that went out needed to be bigger and have impactful deaths or at least some kind of infected attack on the town with some losses that they maybe contained. Also, why could the Alpha control the crows like Saruman sends out Crebain from Dunland?

If she left then there was no guarantee that she wouldn't get eaten alive by a zombie the next day.
