Yes and I also read a lot of history. And as to why throughout the ages, well Socrates pretty much nailed it over 2 millennia ago. Human nature means societies tend towards dictatorship. There will always be sociopaths who crave nothing more than power. They tend to band together and gather wealth and power and influence (oligarchy). Once they control the majority of people they start to fight amongst themselves until only one remains (dictatorship). But of course all power resting on a single person will always collapse eventually (even if after multiple generations) and after years (or generations) of repression the vast mass of the oppressed rise up and overthrow the system. I kind of agree with you although lets say an atheistic joe rogan fan takes psychedelics for the first time and meets with a higher dimensional being supposedly passing on ancient wisdom because they have gone through ego death they are in a highly suggestible state so when they demon is talking to them they aren't going to question or critically analyse what it's saying they are just going to consume the information as if it's gospel
