A lot of women will feign getting the ick with comments like that but actually really like it. I used to creep-flirt on a girl that I thought was out of my league by being overly suggestive, thought absolutely nothing of it and had no intentions of getting with her. Later, when I'd left that job a friend of hers told me that she was really into me and talked about me all the time. I did that a few times because I was always outwardly confident but inside I have very low confidence and am terrified of rejection.
Women are very difficult for me to get a read on so I usually ended up treating them like one of the guys.
