The truth is that people want the same movie again and again.

'Smile 2' was literally the same movie as Smile, and people loved it for that.

Then with M3gan 2 and Joker 2, you have films that very much honor the first installment, but try to do something new with it too. People hate it for that, so much so, that the current mainstream interpretation of Joker 2 is so far off from what is actually on the screen.

Not many people saw the first one so anyone who might have watched this feels like they need to see it in order to follow the story. But the first one seems kind of irrelevant to the sequel, like you get the basics just from the trailer. And if they do watch the first one before this comes out they will be disappointed because it's just not a good movie, so they won't go see the second.

I meant protect Cady not Gemma. To expand on this I don't think M3gan should already be fighting a bigger and badder AI already. I feel like she should have still been the same character slowly upgrading her logic and still striving to achieve her main directive of protecting Cady in humorously dark, inhumane and absolute terms.
