I'm not exactly happy with this one yet. because Indian reviews are not to be trusted, I've pretty much just been skipping any directors/films that look "too Bollywood", but I don't think that's exactly fair. when I eventually make it to the US, I'm not going to skip all Hollywood films because I know there are good films out there mixed in with all the slop, and I feel it's probably similar with Bollywood. my only problem is, while I'm familiar with Hollywood and know which directors/films should be included, the same cannot be said for Bollywood and I don't know how to separate the actual good Bollywood films from the ones that are just highly rated by Indians because they rate practically everything highly. so I could really use some help from anyone that has even a passing knowledge of Bollywood cinema. who should I add/remove?

I was there the night Bookum and Boocum had their fatal demise. I was interviewing Carlos Sanchez (real name Jose Rodriguez) about his new film taking the South American cinema association by storm, when I see two stocky chaps walk up to the theater, Boocum pleading with Bookum to go back home. It was an empty house, because I knew bedtime was approaching. I stood misty-eye, mouth-agape, and completely neglected my interview with Mr. Rodriguez/Sanchez, sheer shock at the spectacle of Caraxfag (Bookum) storming into the theater and sitting down, I knew he would miss bedtime, and the rest is history and nothing good could come of this, and the rest is history.

In fact, I even have an autographed turd from Carlos Sanchez (Jose Rodriguez) and Jorge Rodriguez from the premiere of Mommy I Pissed in the Sink Again. Unfortunately, I couldn't resist and there's clear bite marks in it that will make it hard to sell if I ever am in need of money again.

Doing Bergman chronologically is such a joyride... Just seeing his style evolve from the soulful 'working class' romantic dramas of Monika and Summer Interlude, to the refined Euro-existentialism of Seventh Seal & Strawberries, to the proto-Lynch nightmare dynamics of Persona and Hour of the Wolf.
There's quite a few of them that I also have to rewatch, and some blind spots (Fanny and Alexander) that I've yet to cover. I like his "Trilogy of Faith" the best, but I feel like Persona would appeal to you the most. You seem to be a fan of Gialli, those tend to be already pretty dreamlike and surreal, ya-dig?

havent watched many movies the past few weeks. wow the thread seems extra shit. anyways i watched the emperors naked army marches on tonight. what an absolutely insane documentary from start to finish, its hard to believe its a little over two hours it pretty much flew by for me. i feel like i need more time for it to really sit with me and fully digest because the main character kenzo okuzaki is a very complicated character to say the least. i find his schizophrenic levels of delusion and sense of moral superiority revolting and yet there is another part of me that feels deep respect and admiration for someone who is willing to sacrifice everything for what he believes in no matter the cost. you cant help but feel somewhat inspired by the fact he genuinely believes he has some kind of divine mission from god to shed light on the war crimes committed by the imperial japanese army on its own soldiers and hold those guilty accountable. but at the same time i also feel contempt for someone who fails to ever even spend a moment reflecting on the sins he himself committed against the natives/allies during the war. this is something i find really annoying about japan in general which is that they were never humbled in the same way germany was for their piggish behavior during ww2 but that is unrelated to the documentary i guess. anyways would definitely recommend watching it
