1980s nonsense films
This film is like 99% of films from the 80s where the film you remember (or claim to remember) in your head is way different to the reality of the film.
Even the idea is buffed by nostalgia. It's like half an idea for a film.
Ok, there's ghosts, and the characters set up a business to catch ghosts for profit sort of. But there's no twist to it. There's no catch to set up a comedy premise. You don't even really see any competitors. It's so basic.
Why are there ghosts? Don't think about it. Why are ghosts seen as so banal that the ghostbusters are analogous to inner city pest exterminators? Doesn't matter, don't worry about it. All these 1980s filmmakers with Empire strikes back and Back to the Future rush to the catchphrases and things they want to see without realising there's no story. It's just nonsense.

>You don't even really see any competitors
The antagonists are the city bureaucrats trying to stop them from acting without government approval.

there are ghosts because Ivo Shandor design the apartment building to attract spiritual energy to summon Gozer and bring about the apocalypse.
please watch the movie before posting again

I get the point you're making OP but I wouldn't lump BTTF or SW in the same category

Ghostbusters is a bit of a weird film that's not as funny as people's memories of it

>But there's no twist to it.
The twist is they start out as borderline con artists and end up saving New York.
>There's no catch to set up a comedy premise.
Ghost hunting is a scam but the ghosts in the movie are actually real.
>You don't even really see any competitors.
It's not a Ghost Cinematic Universe, retard.
>Why are there ghosts?
Increased activity due to the building Ivo Shandor built.
>Why are ghosts seen as so banal that the ghostbusters are analogous to inner city pest exterminators?
Ghosts aren't seen as banal. The Ghostbusters aren't even sure they are real at the beginning but, due to the aforementioned building opening a rift, there's a spike in their activity.

Holy shit you're retarded.

Yup. Old good, new bad is a hopelessly nostalgic sentiment and far removed from actual reality.

I don't think Ghostbusters is a good example but The Goonies definitely is
